Frozen water on the bottom of my Amana freezer

The freezer is a self- defrosting model. There is 2 inches of frozen water on the bottom of the freezer. The food is still frozen. My guess is the door was left ajar at some point or there is a clog above the drip tray.

I have turned off the freezer in order to remove the ice. As it melts it is going on the floor, not in the tray underneath.

Your drain line is clogged. Take a small diameter pice of wire and snake out the drain line from inside the freezer.
You may have to access the back rear near the compressor and separate the drain line there and clean it further.

I have found a piece bicycle brake cable casing to be great for these types of jobs. Flexible enough to get around bends but stiff enough to clear odstructions. I used a piece about 2' long to clear my Electra drain pipe.

Freezer not uniformly cold

Check the fan vent to see it's not blocked or frozen. Sometimes a defrost will clear ice temporarily, but it will happen again if you have a bad fan.

Kenmore chest freezer - why is there a 1/2 inch of ice in bottom

Hello. If your freezer is not a self defroster, you must have had a power failure for a few hours that caused a melt with water ending up on the floor of the freezer and then refreezing. IF you have a self-defrost model, your defrost cycle produces some water which should make it's way down to the evaporator tray just above the floor... in your case, the small hole in the floor is plugged and the water is accumulating on the floor rather than making it's way to the evaporator tray. The fix is to clean the evaporator tray, defrost the ice with a blow dryer, locate the hole and clean it out with a couple of pipe cleaners or cotton swabs. Regards, Joe

Ice buildup in bottom of freezer--puddle of water on floor

this sounds like your freezer is operating properly, except that the drainage of the water when going through the defrosting mode is not draining properly, pooling on the bottom of the freezer and then freezing. Check the drainage hose for the defrost in the lower pan. I would remove everything, place in ice chest, let the unit completely thaw out and then inspect. I hope this is beneficial.

Water on bottom of freezer

most commercial freezers have a drain to the back of the compressor area where the condensate goes into a pan and is boiled off into the air by a loop of hot gas tubing in the pan or an electric heater in the pan. when it defrosts the ice on the coil melts and the water flows out . if the tubing gets plugged the water flows out of the pan and down into the bottom of the box where it refreezes on start of the next refrigeration cycle. clean and clear drain with a shop vac or air hose where water can flow out of pan under the evaporator coil when it defrosts. if you have a domestic residential freezer , most of these have no defrost and neeed to be shut down and manually defrosted every few years. if you leave the door ajar or it doesn't seal well ice builds up and can accumulate in the bottom as frost etc. it would be mosyt unusual for a residential box to have a defrost clock, drain and all, but possible and same rules apply. find the drain and clear with shop vac .
