My manual Singer sewing machine foot pedal has stopped working. The pedal is too strong for sewing, I can't pedal it.

There is two distinct parts, the treadle part you operate with your feet and the sewing machine itself. They are joined by the belt. Both parts need lubrication with light machine oil. Remove the belt and lubricate the treadle, then test it runs smoothly. Then clean and lubricate the sewing machine making sure that runs smoothly using the handwheel. Then put the belt back on.

How do i change the belt on my treadle singer sewing machine?

On a treadle sewing machine usually there is no adjustment on the tightness of the belt so you have to shorten it. There will be a metal clip holding the belt together and you can remove and cut the belt shorter and then put it back together. Be very careful to not cut too much off. Probably be a good idea to trim it a very little at a time.

Where do i get a free manual for a white sewing machine 1866 near Jackson, Mi

Hi! Strange as it may seem you can find free manuals for 19th century White brand sewing machines via the Singer website.

Look under Singer's "Support and Resouces" then select "Instruction manuals" , or follow this link: http://www.singerco.com/support/instruction-manuals

On the Instructions Manual page you'll see it says "Find Your Manual - Step 1, Step 2 etc etc" and under that there's a search box that says "Model Number"

Into this search box just type "w"
(don't type "white", because that doesn't work)

You'll be taken to a near incomprehensible results page and unfortunately the method to finding the manual you need is a case of clicking and opening the PDF manuals.

However may I suggest a couple that may be of use:
"W7treadle"
- this is a manual of White treadle with a "boat" style bobbin shuttle

"WRotary"
- this is a manual of White treadle with a "rotary" style bobbin shuttle

Good luck, and I hope you find what you need :)
Kind regards
Kura

The cord drives the machine from the foot peddle.

There is no "belt" size. You need to measure the distance with some yarn and buy some leather treadle machine belt. There are a few vendors on ebay. The machines had a "staple" of sorts that would hold the treadle belts together that might be hard to find.

THE belt that runs top to bottom does not move,do i need a new belt?whats the #?

If the belt is in good shape it may be either a seized drive train or a bad motor. Remove the belt and check to see if the motor runs when the treadle is depressed. Try turning the machine by hand and feel for resistance and listen for grinding, squealing or rubbing noises.
