Instructions1 Take pictures independent of communications software on the Windows version of the netbook by using the webcam without connecting to networking software. No, I am really sorry. The Intel Home PC Camera CS331 Webcam are not sold with microphones. You may purchase an additional microphone to use in addition to your webcam; however, unfortunately, this particular product is sold without a microphone.
Plug your webcam into your laptop's USB port. All modern webcams use the USB port, which is generally located on the left or right side of your laptop.
Install the CD that came with your webcam. All webcams come with a CD with drivers that allow the computer to read the data from the webcam. The CD may also come with a chat program which will allow you to communicate with online contacts who use a similar webcam.
Mount the webcam on top of your laptop. Most webcams will have special plastic clamps that will attach to the top of your computer without hassle. However, since Laptops are often moved around, be careful not to use any adhesive docking mounts, as these are non-removable and may not allow your laptop to fit into specialty cases.
Download and install a video chat service. There are several free video chat services, including Windows Live Messenger and Skype. See the resources section to links to these video chat programs.
Test your webcam. Open your selected program and go to the webcam section. Try contacting someone you know on the service. You should see both yourself and the other person in separate windows. If your feed is shaky or flickers, you may need to reconnect the USB cable. If you do not see the picture at all, try re-installing the drivers on the CD that came with the webcam. You also may want to try the different troubleshooting steps outlined in the owner's manual.
INFO In order to communicate with people online, your laptop will need to be connected to broadband Internet speeds, as dial-up does not have the necessary bandwidth for Internet video chat.
