Panasonic tc-p50x3, when turns on red light flashes 8-10x, in 3-5 series then goes off. Never any picture

I just bought a Panasonic TH-42PZ800U and had the same problem. 10 blinks and the TV would not start. Then after some trial and error I solved the problem!

Here is my (apparent) observation and solution:
I had only one input into the TV, which was my HTPC connected via a DVI-to-HDMI cable plugged into the Panny's HDMI 1 slot. *IF* the HTPC was already on, then the Panny would have the blink of death. *BUT* if the HTPC was off, the Panny booted fine (assuming I cleared the blink of death first by powering off the HTPC, unplugging the TV, and replugging the TV back in with the HTPC still off).

My solution was to move the HDMI cable from slot 1 to slot 3. After making this one change, everything worked as it should. No more 10 blinks of death. I could even leave the HTPC on and turn on the TV last, and it still worked. Tried this 10 times, worked 10 times.

I don't know if this will solve other people's problems, but I hope it at least provides some clues. I wonder if this is a fundamental circuit design flaw on the part of Panasonic, rather than a "bad batch of parts" problem.

Tries unplug,replug the tv back like an hour later.The tv now,should resetting itself back to the factory setting.The tv should work now.Not,than the tv power supply board have problems,not giving the tv it wright voltages anymore.The tv power supply board that the board,where the power a/c cord plug into it.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

My suggestion is that you get an estimat from a dealer on repair costs and you decide whether you want to spen money on a part or new set. This is a bad circuit board and probably the power supply. The repair will be around $200.00 minimum unless you get lucky and there is no major issues and the board can be repaired.
The service manual says. you have what you call a "shut down circut" it is for safety and when one of the internal boards gets shorted or is not working properly, service doc reads as follows

7 Blinks SOS: Pin 93 of the MPU IC9003 monitors the status of the SC, SU, SD board. During normal operation, the photo-coupler PC6480 outputs a low to pin 93. If the SC, SU, or SD board becomes defective, a high is provided to pin 93. As a result, the unit shuts down and the power LED blinks 7 times


thiera blinking 7 times is cuase by a fualt in sc,su,sd board.

If the board shorted another before it went dead you could have other issues, thats why you need a tech to look at it and give you an estimate. You never know, this being so close to warranty they might work with you on it.

Problem is in either power supply or the Y-Sustain board.

The Y-Sustain is a relatively large board out of which go connections to the side of the display; it's therefore closer to either the left or the right side of the display, has at least one rather large heat sink on it and fat power cables connecting it to the main power supply.

Often there are fuses on that board - one or more. Check those.

if they are blown you can try to replace them, but expect them to blow again - usually the whole board needs to be replaced.
