MY REFRIDGERATOR IS WARM AND MY FREEZER IS NOT FREEZING. WHEN I UNPLUG IT FOR A WHOLE DAY THE FREEZER STARTS BACK MAKING ICE AND FREEZING BUT THE REFRIDGERATOR DOESN'T GET COLD ENOUGH. THEN AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS THE FREEZER THAWS EVERYTHING BACK OUT AGAIN AND MY ICE MELTS. I CAN HEAR THAT EITHER THE FAN OR THE COMPRESSOR IS BLOWING AND IT SOUNDS LIKE SOME TYPE OF TIMER CLICKING IN THE REFRIDGERATOR.

There is an air duct that connects the fridge to the freezer. A fan circulates air to cool the refrigerator.
The inside fan has stopped working or is blocked by ice.
Defrost the freezer. If the fridge starts to work properly then you have an auto defrost problem. If the fridge still does not work then there is a faulty fan.
A technician can help you there
the thermostat controler is most likley bad this is where you set the temp with the knobs you can find the parts online with the model number please rate- jeff
Look on the back panel inside the freezer for ice beginning to show. Most times when this happens the fresh food section is the first to notice. Your refrigerator has a control board on the back. If not defrosting the air flow to the fresh food section is greatly reduced. Let me know, Sea Breeze
first defrost it by turning it off for 1\2 to 1 full day,put towels on the floor to catch the water, when a refridgerator gets frosted up it cant circulate the cold air,and if its one with the freezer on top then the cold air cant blow down into the refridgerator, check inside the refridgerator at the top where the thermostat cover is there will be a vent hole,it could have ice built up so much that its totally blocking the air flow. This usually happens when hot food is put in the refridgerator and causes steam,or the refridgerator runs too much caused by bad door seals,or the cooling fins on the back or bottom underneath plugged with dust and the freon gets too hot causing condensation inside the freezer which causes it to frost up,a plugged drain hole will back up water and freeze, the fan in the freezer may have stopped working, which is about a $60.00 part, and finally a bad defrost element (about a $40.00 part)which is a glass tube inside the freezer with a coiled up wire inside it that heats up at certain times to defrost any ice build up,(which is the last thing to check)
Your refrigerator has a main control board part number WR55X10656 if the board is not working properly normal functions of defrost will be skipped and frost buildup will decrease cooling. The cost of the board is expensive and you may want to get more advice to get answers. Control, boards have been a real nuisance for the so called modern refrigerator. If under warrant it would be helpful. You can replace the board yourself and save the cost of a repair technician service. If you like I will help you get through this, Thanks, Sea Breeze
It sounds like you have aproblem with the defrost cycle. Three parts make up defrost system in most refrigerators. The heating element, bimetal and defrost timer, these components need to be checked to determin which is bad. The heating element and bi metal are on the coil behind the freezer back wall, if you have someone who can use a volt ohm meter, with the food removed and refrigerator unplugged ck for resistance on the element if you get a measurment its good, the bimetal will give you a resistance measurment as long as its covered in ice. if these two check ok you may have a bad defrost timer. Id check the bimetal first, hope this helps.
Either the evap fan has a problem, or the defrost system has failed. You should never see frost in the freezer section as the defrost sensor should sense that the coils need to be defrosted before that much frost accumulates.
Unplugging to clean out helped because the frost got a chance to melt away.
If you find the evap motor is running, then the things to check are the defrost sensor, the defrost timer, and the defrost heater.
sounds like you may have gotten a refridgerant leak causing a low charge condition. some refridgerators have a evaporator fan if this quit working it will cause it to freeze up .thus the freezer does not use a fan and it will still get cold
I have no idea to this day, what caused the complete lack of cooling in my freezer and refridgerator. However, it seems to be working fine now. All I did was turn the compressor and fan totally off, let it rest for a few minutes, and then turn it back on. It seems to have "re-booted the system, and now everything is working normally. The ice-maker is once again making ice! It has been three days or so now, and so far, so good!
