If you have a Karcher then you should always post your machines barcode.

full article on nozzles :
http://repairshed.blogspot.com/2013/09/pressure-washer-lance-nozzles-what-you.html

The spill valve operates at approx 20% higher than specified pressure washer operating pressure. If you have any lance issues then the pressure could be running higher than specified (machine running at same pressure as spill valve operation pressure)

your machine produces a fixed flowrate of water (maybe 8 litres per minute) and your nozzle is a fixed size. the diameter of the nozzle determines the back pressure. A piece of debris could further close your nozzle orifice and increase the back pressure. Using a new lance that has the wrong nozzle fitted can also cause this issue.

The karcher barcode is on a silver sticker and is usually 15 digits long. Example 156987400000123 is actually model 1.569-874.0 and serial number 00123....

SOURCE: karcher k2400hh pressure washer, water pressure cuts out.

Hello cikanek:

Try this:

From your posting, I assume you have removed the splash cap and the nylon bypass valve cover. Connect the water supply to the pump and connect the high pressure hose and wand to the pump outlet. Wad up a small towel and place it over the bypass valve opening to catch the valve insert when it pops out. With the engine throttle closed, pull the starter cord several times to see it the valve insert will pop out. If it doesn't come out after two or three pulls, set the throttle to low and start the engine. I have performed this procedure a number of times and the valve insert always pops out. There is no real danger of the valve parts getting seriously airborn since the actual pump output volume is very low (2.5 Gal/min).

Good luck,
Ed

SOURCE: Electric Karcher pressure washer surging when turned on

Dear firenutt681,
One simple thing you can do, is to check for leaks. Check if hose at machine is leaking. Check gun if it is leaking. You can also check if water still comes out of lance nozzel. These leaks however so small, will cause the machine to surge.
Another reason is due to a faulty SPILL VALVE. This spill valve( often called CONTROL VALVE) will contract when the gun is closed. When it contracts under the enclosed pressure it will switch off the machine by means of a Micro Switch. Now if this Spill valve is faulty it will loose its compression under pressure and puts on the micro switch again. This can be seen once in a while or more frequent, as in your case. I sometimes do service Spill Valves, but mostly I replace them with a new one. I do not know the model number of your machine, but normally you have to open the cover and you should spot the spill valve on the head. Most probably you see a thick wire or a cap containing the micro swith. If you find the micro switch, you have found the spill valve. Sometimes it is a bit hard to pull out the spill valve. Myself, in various Karcher models I remove the spill valve by trying to feed water and put on a bit the machine. In this way the spill valve will be spitted out.
Another reason which makes your machine surge, is leakage from from the detergent inlet.
If you do not see no leakages at all....then for sure it is the SPILL VALVE.
If you cannot do this job yourself or you do not find spare parts...you can continue using the machine as it is...but before closing the gun...switch off the electricity. I only recommend this in an emergency. You do this so that you do not leave the machine surging. This surge will for sure damage the electric motor and the capacitor (assuming it is single phase).

Fulltech.

Lost pressure let handle go spits out 1 second of pressure then no pressure

What you are describing is an unloader valve failure. The unloader valve (also called a spill valve or safety pressure relief valve) is sticking in what is known as bypass. Your pump is able to build pressure but when the trigger is squeezed, rather than directing the flow up to the nozzle it is looping the pressure back through the pump as it does when you release the trigger. Depending on the specific brand and model you will need to either replace the unloader or lubricate it if it is a Karcher with a spill valve. If it is a Karcher there is a known issue with the following models:

K2300G1
K2400HB
K2400HH
K2401HH
K5800G
K5800G

All of these have an issue where the spill valve sticks and will need to be lubricated with Vaseline or lithium grease. You can view a guide for this process at http://www.landanorthwest.com/dms. Select Maintenance/Karcher/Pressure Washers/All/Spill valve lubrication.

Motor does not shut off when trigger on wand is released

When the trigger is released, pressure builds up and this acts on a valve (spill valve or pressure control valve). When this pressure is big enough it will push the spill valve out and closes a micro switch. Now this Spill Valve gets stuck sometimes, mainly due to soap and chemicals...so the micro switch is not closed...so the machine contiues running. If this is left likee this it will cause damage to the valves. So all one has to do is service the spill valve or as I usually do I replace it. There are cases were the micro switch is damaged also..and needs to be replaced. To see the spill valve and micro switch you must open the cover. The spill valve is located where you see a cover with an electric wire coming out of it. If the micro switch is good...you must tackle the Spill valve.

Turn water on then actuate wand trigger. Pressure washer leaks when wand trigger is actuated and has very low pressure/flow output. After releasing trigger the pressure cycles on - off at approx 1 second...

You gave a very close solution yourself for the problem. But other leakages can cause such symtoms.Forexample a leaking head or a leaking chemical inlet. These can be caused because the spill valve (pressure control valve) is stuck. When this valve stucks it will leave a micro switch ON. So the machine keeps working with the gun closed. This will in turn creat internal pressure and damages the head, valves and chemical non-return and even damage outlet hose. So besides fixing the leakages you must check and service the spill valve. I often replace the spill valve. One must also checks if the micro switch is faulty. Now very important that what you mentioned that the machine cycles at one minute intervals, with trigger closed...this is most probably always the spill valve fault. If you open machine you see a place where there is a wire..this belongs to the micro switch...under you find the spill valve. Intake and suction valves may now also have a fault. Also there are systems with non-return valves at the machine outlet. You have to tackle by elimination. Fix the leakage..then tackle spill valve and micro switch.

Pressure surge on and off for 2 seconds w/ new Karcher

It can be one of three conditions,
  1. The water supply in is not sufficient
  2. The pump oil is low
  3. The seals are bad in the pump.
I would check the first one first as this is the most common problem.
The water supply hose should be a high volume hose of at least 1/2 inch but 5/8 inch or greater is best.

Pressure washer lacks pressure initially?

Dear allbusiness9,
This problem is most probably due to a faulty Spill Valve( also called Control Valve). When the gun is released the spill valve is compressed and it either closes a micro switch or just opens from the bottom and keeps the water circulating. All spill valves keep the water circulating from the bottom part. Now when the gun is pulled (opened)...the spill valve extends and closes the bottom part, and thus water goes out of the nozzel. When you work with no nozzel, there is enough water flow to close the bottom part of the spill valve. So when the nozzel is placed back there is no chance that the bottom part leaks water. When the gun is started with the nozzel....the bottom part of a FAULTY spill valve,..will colapse and pressure drops. So to fix the fault you must change the Spill Valve. In some occasions, I also found that suction valves give this problem. A faulty sucktion valve will colapse under high pressure, and lets water pass the other way round.
But in my opinion and experience, your problem is in the Spill Valve.

Karcher 2500 Psi

Dear Aliciaashwor,
I am assuming that the problem occurs when the gun is closed. This problem is due to a fault in the spill valve. When the gun is closed, pressure pushes this spill valve downwards and puts off a micro switch. Now this spill valve has "O" rings. If the O rings get worn out, the spill valve starts going up again and switches the machine on. The pressure is built and the spill valve goes down again to put the machine off. And so this goes on....ON OFF ON OFF. The spill valve must be changed. But if you see that you have pressure when gun is open, all you have to do to stop, is switch off the electricity before you close the gun. This can be done as much as you want, because no harm is done. So open the gun, switch on and work. To stop switch off and after close the gun.
