The most likely cause is a bad ignitor part number 279311. It has to glow to open the valve and ignite the gas. You should hear a loud click when you first start the dryer. That tells us there is voltage to the gas valve.

Unplug and turn off the gas feed. The fuse is located in the back of the series 70 attached to the lint housing near the bottom. About 1-1/2 inches long. Easy to remove, only two contact wire attachments. Note which wire goes where. Under $10.00 at an appliance parts store. Start with this fix.

If still no heat take out the ignitor assembly, located in the front, lower left. It is attached to the base of the dryer by 3 screws, the gas feed and two electrical wires with removable metal attachments (note which attachment goes where). The entire assembly will come out and the ingitor is attached to the front end. I took mine to the appliance parts store and it tested OK so it was the fuse. The owner helped me locate the fuse and suggested I try this first. The ignitor coil is about $25.00.

Both of these were easy enough for a novice (like me) to do. It saved a lot of money.

While the dryer was open I vacuumed out all the dust and lint and checked the integrity of the belt.

Good luck.

You probably have an open thermal fuse, the dryer will run in some cases and not heat, Just moving air across you clothes will dry them however it takes forever.

If you are electrical or mechanical replace the thermal fuse yourself if not call someone you trust, you can purchase thermal fuses on line from Sears.com just do a parts search for you specific dryer.

check the thermal fuse if it is blown also change the high limit thermal cut-off fuse www.repairclinic.com shows your parts. go there and enter model number. Also check the heat element. to get into it remove the lint filter and the two screws you'll see there then pry the top up at the front corners. And through the back you should find the heat element and blower housing and thermal fuse and high limit fuse and cycling thermostat.

Possibly a faulty heat element is most common failure. Fix the no heat problem and the dryer should shut off ok.
Make sure you have correct voltage to the unit before tearing apart. Again visit the link above

I have a kenmore 70 series gas dryer. It won't

Check the thermal fuse and thermostats first, then the ignitor and the valve coils are the next possibilities.

Kenmore dryer 70 series flame ignites, but goes out after 5 mins

If it's gas, the coil valves get weak and are unable to hold themselves open when hot. First, check the exhaust vent. If it's clogged, it can't remove heat and it will shut off prematurely. Most likely the coil valves though.

Kenmore 70 Series

Unless the dryer is extremely old, you do not have a standing pilot. It uses and ignitor or glow coil which could be your problem. It could also be defective gas valve coils or an open thermal fuse. Since it is a gas unit, I recommend you call a technician.
