Go to your electrical panel and turn off the circuit that feeds your dishwasher. It will also turn off the clean light. Wait three minutes and then turn the circuit back on. That should reset your machine.

Clean light staying on? Try this: Do not open the dishwasher during the washing or drying cycle. I used to open the door during the drying cycle, to wipe the puddles of water that were on the bottoms of the glasses and dishes, to help with the drying. Since i stopped doing this, the clean light has been going off by itself when the door is opened, once all the cycles are complete.

Thanks for the advice, it worked! For a few days I tried to cancel the blinking...

The blinking "clean light" is a common problem with some of the Kenmore and Whirlpool models dishwashers. The problem is usually attributed to water supply temperatures being too low when filling. Apparently, there are some issues with the temperature sensing circuits in some dishwashers that causes an error code to be generated if a certain water temperature is not achieved in a specified time interval (this time may differ between models). There is a reset sequence that you can try to clear the fault. Push the NORMAL WASH then HEATED DRY buttons in that sequence two to three times. The unit will enter diagnostics mode, but can be stopped by pressing the CANCEL button. This will clear any existing faults and should return the dishwasher to normal operation.

To keep the fault from returning, it is recommended that you run your hot water faucet in the kitchen until it runs hot BEFORE you start the dishwasher. This will heat the water in the supply line for the dishwasher (most dishwashers are fed from the kitchen sink supply line). The theory is that if you fill the dishwasher with hot water from the start of the wash cycle instead of the cool water that is normally in the lines (especially if you have a hot water tank located far away from the kitchen), this should satisfy the requirements of the temperature sensing circuits. If the fault reappears, there should be a tech sheet located inside the lower panel under the door that explains what the fault is. The flashing light will be a series of flashes, followed by a pause. If you indeed have a component problem, it will depend on the number of flashing lights in the sequence. Refer to the tech sheet to determine WHAT component is affected and how to troubleshoot.

Our Whirlpool dishwasher GU2500XTPT1 clean light blinks and will not go off. When we push the start/cancel button, it cycles through the 2 min cycle as the book says it should do and all lights go off. ...

That could be a problem with the control board, but before anything else try unplugging it from the wall, or turning the circuit breaker off. After turning it back on, see if it still happens. Also check to be sure the door is closing properly.

Clean button is flashing

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. If the clean light flashes, pauses, and then repeats. When the dishwasher doesn't sense a water temperature increase, it stops working and locks the functions (clean light flashes, all buttons are non responsive). It does this as a safety in case the element is broken and feeding electrical current into the water.

To resolve this you will have to reset the console. Do this by closing the door and press these buttons in sequence...

-high temp wash

-heated dry
-high temp wash
-heated dry

Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

The "clean" button is flashing & none of the other cycles work.

heated dry and high temp wash
toggle till all the lights light up
then hit cancel
you should be able to turn dishwasher back on
you probably have a bad heater
is it flashing 7 times
take kick panel off and look to the rear of the dishwasher
is anything burned
if the clean light keeps blinking replace your heater

...all the lights will turn on briefly and the machine will start a diagnostic cycle. You can press cancel or let the diagnostic cyle finish (1-2 minutes).
You should now be able to run the dishwasher as normal.

If the issue returns, you could have a problem with the heating circuit (ie. element, thermostat or wiring). It rarely happens but it could also be the door switch not engaging properly when the door is closed (slightly bend the door latch down making sure it doesn't hit the door when you close it).
