Flame is coming out of burner, looks pretty good, but part by gas entry keeps flaring up
SOURCE: Low flame/ side burner dosen't light
I just read this online and it worked for me. Hope you have similar luck.
Newer propane tanks contain a self regulating feature that will automatically slow down the flow of fuel if it thinks it's too high. This can be solved by turning the tank valve off completely and disconnecting it. Open the control valves (on the grill control panel) and ten close them. Reconnect the fuel tank and slowly turn on the valve. Now light the grill to see if that fixes it.
SOURCE: I can smell the gas
It's either the flame sensor or the gas valve.
The sensor senses flame and sends signal to the valve, the valve then sends gas through the burner/s.
If it's a thermocouple (looks like thisbefore installed) http://furnaceparts.com/eshop/products/thermocouple.jpg
then replace the thermocouple.
It sits right in the flame pattern and they usually cost less than ten bucks.
SOURCE: The gas is coming through, but does not light.
I have the same grill, and sometimes the same problem.First, with the gas off or completely disconnected, remove the grill grates and the flavor bars from the grill. Now you can see the heating element.A small wire brush will do the trick.Gently clean all the little holes in the element where the gas comes out. Then, with compressed air or even canned air(like what you use to clean a computer with)blow out the holes you just cleaned.Reassemble the grill and light.Should work fine after that.
SOURCE: Side burner on propane gas grill burns with orange
here is a link to a page that shows what the colors of the flame should look like and what causes the orange instead of the blue flame. http://www.appliance411.com/faq/gas_range_flames.shtml
I would begin by checking to be sure you do not have a spider or a cob web in the burner partially blocking the gas or the air intake.
I had this problem with a brand new grill so it wasn't grease in the hose. Due to the new propane regulators you have to turn the propane tank on for at least a minute before turning the grill to light. Let the tank sit in the light position for five seconds and then you light the grill. This will keep air from getting into the intake hose and will keep your gas flame roaring high.
I was only able to get the grill up to 250 degrees before I found this fix posted on the Weber site. It is listed as the number one solution in the FAQ section.
