I accidentally vacuumed up some water in my dyson dc 17. The motor smelled hot. I let it dry. The motor was still hot, then later after more drying time, nothing happens when i hit the power button. Is the motor ruined? Is there a fuse reset switch for the motor?

I don't have a full diagram for you, but I do have a photo of how they are meant to be assembled:

The cog belt is probably not aligned with the motor gear. Watch this video and follow its instructions closely.

What do you want to reset? Do you mean the motor has stopped working? There is no "reset button". The motor has an automatic cut-out, which will operate if the motor gets too hot and will reset itself when it cools. If the motor will not work when it's cool, then you have an electrical problem which will probably need professional attention.

These problems are nearly exclusively caused by a bad circut board and replacing it is the fix. Bad boards can cause many different effects so its nearly impossible to be sure. The 9v signal wire is not enough to short out an entire unit so it is unlikely the hose. If it is a direct connect system and you are pulling power from the 110 somehow that would cause main unit problems but that is unlikely at best. Sounds like a failed board to me.
Best of Luck

Hi, there is no reset button on a Rainbow vacuum. There is a safety switch on all E series and E2 series Rainbow vacuums, that keep it from running without the water basin on it.
If you have any more questions let me know. I am a Rainbow seller, and a Rainbow expert also.
Thank you,

Thank you, you saved my dyson!!! It won't turn on in the upright position so i can use the hose, but it does run when i pull the arm back to vacuum. Thanks so much!
Thank you all. The problem was apparently at the switch because I sort of pulled that apart and pushed it back in. Then I could see the button engaging against the white inner switch when I pushed it, and hear a click I wasn't hearing before, so I do believe there may be a reset switch in the main switch. It's now working even in the upright position. I can't get the switch cover back on tight but I'd rather have an off-kilter cover and a working machine that a dead one. appreciate all the help.
