No audio output - Marantz 2238

Original owner of a Marantz 2238. Worked perfectly until last week. Powers up, FM signal strength and all other functions appear to work, except no audio out.

I know that when it normally powers up, there's about a 2 second delay then a small relay type ''click'' before the amp powers up and speakers begin working. I no longer hear that relay sound and no output to the speakers.

Thanx in advance,

Kerry Adams

This can be as simple as a poor connection somwhere in the voltage regulator circuit or a defective driver transistor or output transistor. In any case, this is a simple repair for any shop that works on vintage receivers. If it is the outputs, that will be the most expensive repair from a parts perspective. The outputs will cost in the $5-$10 range for each one and it could be 2-4 pieces. If you wish to attempt this repair yourself, you will need a multimeter that has a diode checker. Let me know and I'll provide additional details and instructions.

Not sure how old this is, but I am experiencing the exact problem on my 2138b. You have instructions on how to go about fixing this? Was working great, no audio now, no relay click when powered up. I do have a meter. Thanks, John

Is the Marantz SR68 an FM tuner please?

No, it is a Surround Sound Receiver for taking television signal, or a signal from another device and amplifying it to multiple speakers..

I have a marantz 2238b receiver and a magnasonic dvd 824-2. . where do I connect the cable to watch movies?

To play audio from your DVD player through the 2238b, you will need to hook the RCA left an right outputs from the DVD to the Aux IN on the back of the 2238b. Then you will need to power on the 2238b and place the selector switch to the Aux position. Lastly, adjust the volume to a level you are comfortable with and that should be it.

Thanks

Marantz st-48 wont pick up fm signal

If you are inclined to try to service this unit the first step is to download a service manual, this is a sight that has a copy of the manual for download for a price

http://www.marantz.owner-manuals.com/ST48-service-manual-MARANTZ.html

you will require some hand tools, soldering iron and desoldering brade and some solder, multi meter and some type of signal tracing device like and oscilloscope or and audio tracing amplifier.
Look for missing power supply's to your RF front-end circuits and FM discriminator , also track down the analog switching ic to varrifie that this unit is functioning and selecting the FM circuits
if you still kneed help contact me further with your findings and a copy of the service guide

Have a good day and good luck

Can a marantz tech come online to help me?

Probably not at FixYa. You might try Marantz at their web site. Select your region of the world and go from there.

I have a new Onkyo TX-SR508 receiver. When listening to FM radio the audio cuts out repeatedly for anything from a few seconds to a minute. Power fluctuation is very unlikely to be the problem. Signal...

Does the display show "tuned" or "FM Stereo"? This would normally indicate a good reception. The tuner has a signal level threshold and if the signal gets to week, the receiver mutes to prevent noise in the speakers. Swithing to mono make reception less intolerant. Does the problem also occur, when you switch to mono?

FM output

I had the same problem. Only thing that I came up with that was consistant is plugging it into the aux jack on my radio so you don't have to depend on FM frequency. But, my unit crapped out this week and I hope it is under warranty.

Center speaker hookup to a MARANTZ mdl 2238

Hi tliguyanadig

You can hook up the speaker "between" left and right outputs. Just connect the center speaker between left +ve and right +ve outputs respectively. It will give a spacial effect that some like and some dont:) Try it and see for yourself. Your marantz amp will handle the load OK. It is rated 38 watts into 8 ohms, but there is not alot of load presented by this sort of setup. Let me know what you think.
