Oil Life Left
Oil life left percentage is based on the information the DIC receives from a class 2 message from the PCM. The DIC displays the current percentage of the GM Oil Life System. When the oil needs changing the change engine oil indicator in the message center turns ON. When the engine oil is changed, reset the oil life left. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting in Maintenance and Lubrication.

GM Oil Life System Resetting
When the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, it will indicate that an oil change is necessary. A CHANGE ENGINE OIL message will come on. Change the engine oil as soon as possible within the next 600 miles (1 000 km). It is possible that, if driving under the best conditions, the oil life system may not indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset.
If the system is ever reset accidentally, change the engine oil at 3,000 miles (5 000 km) since last oil change.
How to Reset the Engine Oil Life System
If the vehicle does not have optional Driver Information Center (DIC) , do the following:
Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
Fully press and release the accelerator pedal slowly three times within five seconds.
Turn the key to OFF. If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message comes back on when you start the vehicle, the Engine Oil Life System has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
If the vehicle has the optional DIC, do the following:
Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
Press the MODE button until the DIC reads OIL LIFE LEFT/HOLD SET TO RESET.
Press and hold the SET button until 100 percent is displayed. You will hear three chimes and the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message will go off.
Turn the key to OFF.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message comes back on when you start the vehicle the Engine Oil Life System has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

Oil Life Monitor Resetting (KD, KE)
Description
The engine oil life monitor will indicate when to change the engine oil and the engine oil filter - usually between 5 000 km (3,000 miles) and 12 500 km (7,500 miles) since the last oil change. Under severe conditions, the CHANGE OIL message may be displayed before 5 000 km (3,000 miles). The vehicle must not be driven more than 12 500 km (7,500 miles) or 12 months without an oil change.
The engine oil life monitor will not detect dust in the oil. If the vehicle is driven in a dusty area, be sure to change the oil every 5 000 km (3,000 miles) or sooner if the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message is displayed.
Reset the oil life monitor when the oil has been changed.
Resetting Procedure
Press the INFORMATION SKIP button on the DIC control panel in order to display the OIL LIFE LEFT message.
Press and hold the RESET NO button until the display shows 100% ENGINE OIL LIFE.

First dealer was NOT doing you any justice. Next oil change run a can of GUNK engine flush let idle 5-10 mins then change Oil & Filter and use a good oil like Castrol or Valvoline 10w-30. You won't have "supposed" sludge build up.

neither have i to be honest ,i change oil filter every third oil change on my regular customers cars with a oil change every 6000km or so ,never a problem and i have often changed a filter on some cars without changing teh oil where the metal cannister has started leaking

- Drain and refill transfer case fluid.

45,000 miles (72 000km) or at 36 months
- Change engine oil.
- Replace engine oil filter.
- Inspect front wheel bearings.
- Inspect brake linings.
- Flush and replace engine coolant at 36 months, regardless of mileage.

52,500 miles (84 000km) or at 42 months
- Change engine oil.
- Replace engine oil filter.
- Flush and replace engine coolant if not done at 46 months.

60,000 miles (96 000km) or at 48 months
- Change engine oil.
- Replace engine oil filter.
- Replace engine air cleaner filter.
- Replace ignition cables (5.2L/5.9L).
- Inspect PCV valve, replace as necessary.
- Replace spark plugs.
- Inspect auto tension drive belt and replace as necessary (5.2L/5.9L).
- Drain and refill automatic transmission fluid (4.7L).

67,500 miles (108 000km) or at 54 months
- Change engine oil.
- Replace engine oil filter.
- Inspect front wheel bearings.
- Inspect brake linings.

75,000 miles (120 000km) or at 60 months
- Change engine oil.
- Replace engine oil filter.
- Drain and refill automatic transmission fluid and filter (5.2L/5.9L).
- Drain and refill transfer case.
- Flush and replace engine coolant if it has been 30,000miles (48 000km) or 24 months since last change.
- Inspect auto tension drive belt and replace if required.

82,500 miles (132 000km) or at 66 months
- Change engine oil.
- Replace engine oil filter.
- Flush and replace engine coolant if it has been 30,000miles (48 000km) or 24 months since last change.

90,000 miles (144 000km) or at 72 months
- Change engine oil.
- Replace engine oil filter.
- Replace engine air cleaner filter.
- Replace spark plugs.

97,500 miles (156 000km) or at 78 months
- Change engine oil.

105,000 miles (168 000km) or at 84 months
- Change engine oil.

- Flush and replace engine coolant if it has been 30,000 miles (48 000km) or 24 months since last change.
- Inspect auto tension drive belt and replace if required.

112,500 miles (181 000km) or at 90 months
- Change engine oil.
- Replace engine oil filter.
- Drain and refill automatic transmission fluid and filter (5.2L/5.9L).
- Inspect front wheel bearings.
- Inspect brake linings.
- Flush and replace engine coolant if it has been 30,000 miles (48 000km) or 24 months since last change.

120,000 miles (192 000km) or at 96 months
- Change engine oil.
- Replace engine oil filter.
- Replace engine air cleaner filter.
- Replace ignition cables (5.2L/5.9L).
- Inspect PCV valve, replace as necessary.
- Replace spark plugs.
- Inspect auto tension drive belt and replace as necessary.
- Drain and refill automatic transmission fluid (4.7L).

Don't listen to the idot that said to change your oil at 39 miles! If you only have 39 miles on your bike and your oil light is on it mean there is low oil pressure so you need more oil in it. Cause the only reason that light goes on is when theres not enough oil in it. Not because you need an oil change.Also the oil change should be done at least every 3,000 miles but I do mine at 2,500. Also When you change the oil for the first time, you want to change the Filter as well. Every oil change there after you dont have to change the filter every time, you can do it every other oil change if you choose to. And always fill it up to in between the lines of your sight glass. and always makesure that after you put oil in it you start it up and for about 30-60 seconds then shut off and let sit for about an hour and add oil as needed.

Did you also change the filter as well as the oil, and have the system flushed?

If not, do so.

I would recommend that you change your oil every 3,000 mile or 3 months which ever come first. This just help you keep a cleaner engine and keeps oil at Peak performance and provide excellent protection against sludge which developes with lack of oil change.
