My Whirlpool Calypso model GVW9959KQ has failed (on and off) to have power for the last week. I checked the outlet and power source, which are fine. I unplugged the machine for 5 minutes and it then started, but this pattern continued for the week. NOW, it doesn't start at all. What is the problem?

SOURCE: Whirlpool Calypso - Will not start

We just experienced the same problem with the buttons! I just kept pushing all the buttons until it switched over-delicate cycle was actually the one that got it going-what a piece of work this machine is!

SOURCE: Whirlpool Washer #WFW8300SW01 will not operate.

There's a couple of reasons for the F-01, most common is a bad relay on the main control board. (CCU)
This washer will also flash that code if:
1: Either the back or front access panels are removed while operating, there are ground safety switches that are held closed by the panels.
2: If the power supply outlet is supplying much less than 120V (usually would need to be 112V or less to cause it)
3: If the polarity is incorrect (hot and neutral reversed) at the outlet
4: If there is an open ground at the outlet.
The easiest way to check 3&4 is with a simple plug in outlet tester. I have seen all of these problems throw an F-01, but I would still say 9 out of 10 times you have no option but replacing the CCU. Make sure to double check your manual about the warranty info, as some electronic controls are often covered beyond the 1yr standard warranty. If you're going to replace it yourself, it is accessed by removing the top panel, and is located towards the front, right side of the cabinet, and has a zillion wire harnesses plugged into it. When replacing the board, note that there may be some harness connections available on the board that are not used, mark them as such. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: whirlpool calypso top load washer stuck on FL

Fl means flood
you either have a bad flood switch or something is in the pump.
the pump is located under the washer
if you where to tip back and remove the 3 5/16 inch screws and look to the very right you will see the pump.
it could be these 2 things and or it could be something in your sump balls. which you would need special tools to gain access to.
let me know if this helps

My Kenmore Calypso washing machine has is

Where the power cord goes into the washer is a small box called a line filter. It is there to protect the electronics in the control. It might be that the line voltage filter has failed. Remove the rear panel on the control to access it. Calypso Service Manual

Machine won't start- checked plug -didn't start- used yesterday and worked fine. tried unplugging and replugging but didn't help. Help!

Make sure that the AC receptacle has voltage by plugging in another device. If it is dead, the breaker servicing that outlet may have tripped (without reason, I've replaced a couple of failed breakers) or the outlet may be protected by a 'Ground Fault Interrupter' (GFI). If this is tripped it would be due to either a momentary imbalance of the line or possibly electrical leakage within the washer. This latter problem needs to be cured as it presents a safety hazard if the GFI fails to trip as it should.

Whirlpool Calypso top load washing machine. No warning... no power. no breakers tripped! Outlest tested fine with another appliance.

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Yes. I replaced the control panel (the panel with all the cycle buttons on it). I downloaded the technician's manual from whirlpool and went through the troubleshooting to find the problem. Th part costs around $106.00. Just make sure you order the right color.

Whirlpool Calypso - Will not start

You ever hear of dog years? Well Calypso follows those same guidelines. So your machine is 35 years old. These are the Edsel's of washing machine fame. I had a Calypso for 6 1/2 years. 3 pumps, numerous circuit boards, drive motors, phone calls and arguements with Whirlpool, along with machine downtime. I finally junked it and bought a Whirlpool Duet 9200 HT (get the made in Germany machine). A world of difference in wash quality. Fresh smelling unballed clean clothes. The Calypso was removed from the market and the subject of a class action lawsuit. Just Google it and start reading. Get comfortable first. There's a lot to read.
