You have a panel in the left of your ata connetor in motherboard, read there (is writen f_panel1) for apropriate led place (for example reset is writen rst, power led is writen pwr and disk led hd or hdd.)

You want to look at pages 27-35, they describe what you need to plug into the motherboard. Basically make sure you have connected:
1) 24-pin power cable (from power supply) 2) 4-pin power cable (for CPU from power supply) 3) Any case fans with 3/4 pin connectors. 3) hard drives (SATA or IDE) 4) USB front panel ports 5) Audio front panel ports 6) Case plugs (power LED, hdd LED, power switch, and reset switch).
This board is an OEM version made for HP. HP's information about it is here. There's no manual available for this at the ASUS site since it's a custom board. They do list several other A8N versions, but none has the same layout as the A8N-LA.
Does your internal speaker beeps or stops telling you there is no hd detection? Try to put another hd. If you are using Windows reinstall it. Does the red light blinks CHECK out the power chord to hd and all power connections from psu
Normally on the board there is silk printing to state what connection goes where. Also on the black connector i.e. power LED there is a small arrow that goes to pin 1 of the POWER LED pins.
