How To re-install all versions of Studio onto a clean computer

I'm back from a re-install of Windows XP sp3. So I'm starting from scatch.
How do I go about reinstalling all my studio programs to get my effects and transitions back and working onto 12 ultimate.
I have 8,9,10,11plus,11ultimate &12ultimate on retail CD's.

I have made one attempt of intalling 10, 11 and 12 - transitions and effects were not working so I uninstalled everything and I'm starting again but this time attempting to get guidance before I start.
Perhaps I needed to get patches for each program before proceeding to the next?

Guidance would be extemely appreciated.

Microsoft updates do not install

You have not said which OS you are using so; from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

When you try to install Windows updates from the Windows Update Web site, the Microsoft Update Web site, or by using Automatic Update, you receive a message that the update is not installed successfully. Additionally, the update is not displayed in the update history.

You may experience this issue in the following scenarios:

Scenario 1 You try to install updates after repair a Windows XP installation by using the Windows XP CD.
Scenario 2 You perform the following operations before you try to install Windows updates:

You perform a new installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).
You visit the Windows Update Web site, or the Microsoft Update Web site.
Note When you visit the update Web site, the latest version of Windows Update software will be installed in your computer.
You install Windows XP Service Pack (SP3) without a restart.
You try to install Windows updates after the install of Windows XP SP3.

Then cause ;

This issue occurs because the Wups2.dll file that is included in the latest version of Windows Update is not installed correctly.

For scenario 1, the registry entries that correspond to the Wups2.dll file are missing after the repair install of Windows XP. The release version of Windows XP does not contain the Windows Update software.

For scenario 2, the registry entries that correspond to Windows Update are changed back to the Windows XP SP2 version if you did not restart the computer before you install Windows XP SP3. The registry entries for the Wups2.dll file are changed to pointing to the Wups.dll file that is included in the release version of Windows XP SP2.
To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods;

Method 1: Download and install the Windows Update Agent,
For an x86-based computer; http://download.windowsupdate.com/WindowsUpdate/redist/standalone/7.4.7600.226/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe

For an x64-based computer http://download.windowsupdate.com/WindowsUpdate/redist/standalone/7.4.7600.226/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64.exe

Method 2: Register the Wups2.dll file,

To have MS register the Wups2.dll file in Windows for you, go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144#FixItForMeAlways.

If you prefer to fix this problem yourself,

To register the Wups2.dll file in Windows, follow these steps:

1. Stop the Automatic Updates service. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Open the Command Prompt window. To do this, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
b. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
net stop wuauserv

2. Register the Wups2.dll file. To do this, follow these steps:

a. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\wups2.dll

Note For a computer that is running Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
regsvr32 %windir%\syswow64\wups2.dll

b. Click OK if you receive a verification message.

3. Start the Automatic Updates service. To do this, type the following command at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:

Install windows xp3

I hope you mean SP3(Service Pack 3) on XP. Please follow these steps

Do one of the following:

  • If you downloaded SP3 from the website, to install it immediately, click Open or Run and follow the instructions on your screen. To install the program later, click Save and download the installation file to your computer. When you're ready to install the service pack, double-click the file.

  • If you're installing SP3 from the Service Pack 3 CD, insert the disc into your computer with your current version of Windows XP running, and the Software Update Installation Wizard should automatically appear. If this wizard doesn't appear, click Start, double-click My Computer, right-click your CD or DVD drive, and then click AutoPlay.

  1. On the Windows XP Service Pack 3 page, click Next.

  2. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

  3. After the installation is complete, click Finish to restart your computer.

  4. If you disabled your antivirus software, enable it again.

The Pinnacle Studio which worked on Windows XP does not work on Window 7. What upgrade software should i get?

I think the best option for you is to Upgrade to Pinnacle Studio 14 which is $0, or Pinnacle Studio 14 Ultimate, which costs $70. An upgrade is cheaper than buying the entire version which will cost you about $130. The upgrade will work with Windows 7, Windows Vista (SP2), Windows XP (SP3).

On the other hand, if a program cannot be run under Windows 7 because of compatibility issues, you can right click on the executable file that will start the application and click Properties. Select Compatibility tab and check the Windows version you know the program worked with before. This will make it run as if it was running in Windows XP. You can find more about this Compatibility issue on Microsoft website: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows

Xp service pack 3 key

Hi,

There is no "key" for SP3, its just an update.

Just click on the start menu and perform a Windows/Microsoft Update to install SP3 and then perform another update to update SP3.

Dell Resource CD - not working in Windows XP SP3 version

You are using the Dell Resource CD provided by the manufacturer. This CD may not work with new versions of Internet Explorer that come with SP3 installations (if you reinstalled from a Windows XP CD not provided by Dell or if you did the Microsoft SP3 update).
You're only solution would be to use your "Service Tag" number underneath, for laptops (or on the back/side for Desktops), of your computer and go to http://support.dell.com to download the drivers for your specific system. If this computer doesn't have the drivers for you to be able to go to the internet, use a second computer and go to the site. Then download the individual drivers listed (the latest dated drivers will work best).
Once you've downloaded mainly the Video, Network, Audio drivers, use a USB Flash drive (sometimes called USB Key, USB pen drive, USB drive, etc) and copy what's been downloaded onto it. Do not double click on the files while they're on the second computer.
Once on the machine with Windows XP SP3, double click on each downloaded file (1 at a time) and follow the on-screen insctructions to install the driver. You should be fine afterwards. :) Let us know how it goes, and rate us. :)

My computer only boots successfully after a forced shutdown.

Is it possible that you have installed winxp twice? You say that you installed XP Pro sp3 was that an upgrade from xp home? if so then you will need to uninstall one or both versions of XP then install only one.. Make sure you backup any important files first though

This may be because you have the wrong drivers installed- i reccomend starting your computer up in safe mode and using system restore go back to a past restore point before upgrading to SP3

then update your drivers before upgrading to SP3

May 19th, 2008: A problem was identified on systems with Studio 10.7 or 10.8 and where Windows XP SP3 was installed. Studio 10 can not be uninstalled from Start => Programs => Studio 10 => Tools or from Add/Remove Programs.

Workaround:
Insert your original Studio 10 Installation Disk and let the autostart launch. You should then have the possibility to either repair or remove the software. Please select REMOVE and Studio uninstall will then start.
