The pop-up flash pop-up when the camera needs more light when using Auto mode.
To disable this, use the "Auto (no-flash)" mode. Enter "Auto (no-flash)" mode by rotating the Mode Dial one click clockwise (when in Auto Mode). The "Auto (no-flash)" icon is a lightning bolt with a "no sign" around it. (marked with a red circle on the sketch below)

Can I use Nikon SB-22s speed light with my Nikon digital SLR D5000? Is that compatible? I bought SB-22s for my previous Nikon film camera. Thank you.

You should be able to use your SB-22 with your D5000, however you can only use it in the manual mode since it is not a TTL speed light. That means you will need to manually set both the camera and the flash unit. I have done that successfully with an SB-25 on both my D800 and D90 in a pinch, but you should consider investing in either an SB-700 or SB-910. They are allot more versatile.

Nikon D5000 flash issue

Sounds like the flash tube is bad. Another possibility would be a bad flash capacitor or circuit. Has the camera been impacted - especially around the flash?
Another possibility is that the light tube that goes from the frame around the tube to the sensor further back in the flash base has come loose or impact has broken the frame.
Pop up the flash. Underneath there are two screws; remove the screws, push the flash back down and using a slim piece of metal pop off the flash cover. You can then see the tube and the light pipe (looks like a thick black wire) and the sensor located at the back on the right.
Be very careful. There can be over 300 volts across the flash tube - do not touch!!!

How to replace FLASH SHOE BASE BRACKET UNIT on nikon D5000?

It screws in from the bottom of the top cover. You have to remove the bottom, back, and front covers, discharge the flash capacitor with the proper tool, unsolder and remove the top cover. and unsolder the dedicated contact pins from the top cover flex, plus any other things the top cover flex is connected to (usually the solenoid that controls the pop up of the flash) then you carefully pull the flex out of the way to reach the four screws that hold the hot shoe on.

My nikon D5000 monitor is dark and i have to look through the viewfinder to see the scene i want to take a picture of. monitor works fine to view taken pictures and in filming mode. why? and how can it be...

The Nikon D5000 must be set in "Live View" mode before you can use the rear monitor to take photos. There is a button that says "LV" to the right of the LCD screen that sets Live View to on or off.

Canon Speedlite 199A

No. First the Canon 199 was designed for the Canon camera, and the electronics are very different in the Nikon. Two the 199 was designed for film and the digital metering is completely differnt for digital. Buy a Nikon flash.
