Jerky/Pausing DVD playback on 27" Akai DVD/TV Combo

DVDs will stutter, skip, momentarily pause while playing. It happens with all DVDs. I've made sure that they arre clean. I've used a DVD lens cleaning disc. No luck. Is this a physical problem that I could fix (lubricating, etc.) or an electronic one (requiring hooking up an external DVD player)?

I have seen many issues with these internal dvd players, I will recommend that you pick up a nice inexpensive walmart dvd player and hook it in to the red. green blue connections, that is really the best solution, the players in all these units fail within 4 years. hope this helps have a great weekend

If this doesn't happen with regular DvDs you rent or buy, there may be something wrong with the way you're recording DvDs then.
It could also mean the lens head on your DvD reader is dirty
below is a link with instructions on how to clean

DVD images freeze at certain points or playback becomes choppy

sounds like you will need to clean laser, there are cleaners you can buy out of walmart for this. Don't know if they work well, I take mine apart and use soft cloth and alcohol then letting dry, works fine for me.

DVD burns properly but keeps pausing and skipping

Decrease the recording speed. Record at, for example, 8x speed. 4x might be even better. This will solve you problem.

VLC DVD player is jerky

What are your PC specs for RAM and CPU speed? VLC player is an amazing player. Are you saying this player is jerky on the same videos that another player was NOT jerky on? That seems very odd. I have yet to experience a jerky playback on VLC for movies (mostly HD).

Is your PC doing something else in the background while attempting to play the movies? Hit Control, Shift, Escape while playing a movie and look on the bottom at how much CPU % the PC uses before and during movie playback.

DVD player skips audio and/or frames

PowerBook G4 is at least a five-year-old machine at this point. A DVD drive can **** in lots of dust in five years. Try hooking up to an external DVD drive. If it plays the same discs with no problem, you need a cleaning or replacement. Frankly, an external DVD drive is cheaper than replacing your internal drive.

It sounds like the problem is with the DVD's you've been playing. I've gotten those problems before, but not on every DVD. How many different ones did you try playing?
