I have solved the flooding problem . unfortanetly you must remove the carb to fix it. once you remove the carb you need to remove the fuel bowl. In the bottem of the fuel bowl there is a electronic seloniod that controols the amount of fule going to combustion. this aria had varnish and gunk built up around the plunger of the selonoid, long story short clean this out with carb and chook cleaner and put it back together. start her up and she will run like a champ.
This is actually the fuel cut off solenoid. This should be open when the engine is running to allow fuel to pass through and closed when you shut the engine switch off to prevent backfires by stopping the fuel from going into the exhaust after shutdown. I had almost the same problem as you, but mine varnished closed and would not open, only allowing the motor to run with the idle control set to on and with the choke on. You have to remove that from the float bowl and clean it real well. I had to get pliers and grab that pin to push in to break it loose. I kept working it with carb clean and moving in and out until it worked freely.
What would be an average cost to get the carb and fuel bowl cleaned by a shop?
Thanks so much for this post. My husband was struggling with our generator all day long, we knew it was a fuel problem, getting ready for Issac. You are the man!

If you have fuel to the plugs, have you checked to see if you have good spark? I normally use a vice grip and clamp a new plug to the engine (with the ignition wire attatched to it) somewhere to ground it and crank the engine to see if I have ignition. Helps to have 02 people - one to watch the plug, one to crank engine...Also, if you have an old plug and flooded it, it probably wont start anyway.

im haveing the same trouble with our genorac 15k, plugs are wet, i remove plugs clear the cylinders of all fuel and reinstall plugs and then she starts. but when the idle controol kicks in the Genorator fluds out. When i shut idle controol off the unit continues to run but extreemly rich in fuel,i think it is the carbarator something keeping the fuel flowing thuss fludding out the unit. i have not removed the carb yet but this is what im going to do next. any ideas?
