We were watching tv when we heard a pop and the picture went out. The sound is fine - just no picture.
The TV is approx 2 yrs old and is a Vizio VP42 flat screen. Can it be saved?????
You need to change the sustainer boards and TV will be good as new.

Change the main board if you have good picture and sound. If you don't have picture and sound, the inverter will also need to be change.

On the power supply circuit board some capacitors will vent (top will pop open), dome, or bulge. They can be replaced but the board is two sided and easy to damage. Having the caps replaced at a repair shop is the best way to go. If diyers try it the board can be damaged and then it would have to be replaced. Repair may cost a couple hundred dollars, but a new board can cost that alone, not including installation.
