My Viper Alarm started going off while I was driving. I pulled over, shut everything off. Got out of the car and closed the door and locking and unlocking the vehicle wouldn't shut the car off. I opened the hood and looked at the hood sensor and then shut the hood again and still nothing. Finally it shut off. I got in my car and continued on my way driving back home. It went off again. This happened over and again and there was nothing I could really do. I have a crazy eighteen hundred dollar alarm system that was installed by a professional shop. It just started doing this. I have two sirens in the engine compartment and two small mini piezo sirens inside the car. It was a very uncomfortable ride home, let me tell you! *sighs* I'm clueless to what the problem could be. I started thinking that what if someone hacked DEI and was triggering alarm systems all across the country? I have a small digital reader that tells me the voltage of my battery. It was at 12.1V and after driving for awhile with my stereo system off (because my alarm problem), I stopped at a gas station and saw that it went up to 14V. The battery is probably a little over a year old. Here is a run down of my car alarm system: Clifford by DEI 1way Security & remote start VIPER Smart-Start Bypass module 2 window modules for 4 doors. Glass break sensor proximity sensor (installed in center console and has been disconnected by me) tilt sensor Backup Battery Siren with Backup Battery Original Siren that came with Clifford Alarm 2 mini piezo sirens 1 Mercury switch for hood car is a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire SLK 4 door(imported into the U.S. from Canada) Car is in mint condition. Bought it last year with only 16000 miles. It has around 25k miles now. My remote start starts fine. From my remote and from my iPhone Viper app I can start my car, roll down windows, start vehicle, lock/unlock doors and pop trunk. Another weird that is that when my alarm has been triggering all those times, it never notified my smart start because normally I will get text messages and emails from DEI smart start notifying me that my vehicles alarm system has been activated. In my Viper app, I also got the details of the status of my car and everything checked out. I even used the GPS locator in the iphone viper app and it showed me the correct pin point status of my vehicle. I hope someone here can help me. I will call DEI first thing in the morning.

big aftermarket Car stereo drained viper alarm backup battery. main battery in engine compartment was also low (12V). should be 13.5v especially with all of the electronics i have equipped in my vehicle. 1400w amp pulls alone 150-200amps and stock alternator probably 115amps. plus a ridiculous viper alarm with a ton of added components 4 sirens 3 sensors backup battery 2 window models GPS indash pioneer two rear TVs four 6.5 focal k2 power krx2 two 12 inch Memphis audio subwoofers plus a crazy HID lighting system for low beams and fog lights. before experiencing this issue for the first time of my alarm going off (lights werent flashing) i was listening to my stereo turned up high for about a minute long with the engine off. later in the evening is when I had the alarm problems when I got back in my car and drove away. the car didnt have any starting problems and my gage lights or any of my lights don't have dimming problems either. again, it is believed that my backup battery that is hooked up directly to the alarm system actually drained. once I got back home, I activated my alarm by locking the doors and went inside to go to bed. the next day i called Directed Electronics and they advised me to get my AB/ALL Module for my remote start, flashed by the authorized dealer who installed everything. that morning i drove to the dealer without any problems with the alarm. it is believed that over night that the backup battery had enough time to charge. the dealer told me what I mentioned at the beginning of this message about my car being badly underpowered. I will need to invest into a bigger alternator plus a bigger battery like a Kineticks or however you spell it! the dealer also told me to go to autozone and have then test my battery and alternator. I went and battery tested at 14.2v and alt 14.4v both are fine.
the car had time to charge up the battery because i wasn't listening to my stereo much during this entire process.
I hope that my story here will help someone in the future. it's really strange how an alarm can do what it has done. I still don't fully understand it but there are a ton of electronics involved here.

My alarm is disabled and so is my car. I can\'t connect my battery otherwise the alarm goes off and won\'t shut off.

CONCLUSION: My car alarm had a siren with a backup battery inside that was faulty and kept going off. because all four of my sirens where hooked up together, it was setting off all of the sirens. Problem has been fixed. nothing was wrong with the batteries as we assumed.

The alarm may not be going off. Rather it may be a malfunction of the relay that is driving all the sirens and piezo. Next time it happens check for flashing parking lights. They will flash only when alarm is going off. Also ignition input to the alarm prevents this alarm from going off while driving. Panic from the remote can still be triggered. Got to play detective....

I have a viper 5901 installed on my 2008 Impala SS and every now and then the alarm goes off saying the doors are open but they are closed. why would this happen

This is happening because they used the cars domelight to set the alarm off when the doors are opened. When the cars computer goes into battery save mode and shuts down certain parts of the car, the domelight is one of them and a slight ground or 12 volt positive is backfed to the alarm and sets it off. This usually happens after 30 minutes. they should take the alarms door trigger and actually go to the cars door latch wires. The colors are:
gray/black - driver door tan/white - pass door lt. blue/black - back driver door lt. green/black - passenger back door

Disable viper alarm

Yes the best way is disarm the alarm and put in a Valet Mode
To activate the Valet Mode do the following:

There is a push button or toggle switch to disable the alarm (to engage the valet mode). Without knowing where this
switch is you won't be able to disconnect the alarm.

1. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the "on" position.
2. Flip the toggle or hold the push button for at least 5 seconds.
3. The LED. light will stay solid on.
4. Turn the ignition off
5. Release the push button. If you have a toggle leave it alone in step 2

My Python 990 system is acting up.Installed several months ago. Now doors wont lock or unlock and alarm goes off every time the door is open even in the unlock pososition. The vehicle is a 2002 Escalade...

Sounds like you have a bad remote, bad battery in the remote, or it needs to be reprogramed to the alarm. If the alarm has been set with the remote, it will need to be disarmed with the remote as well, unlocking the door with the key and getting in, will set off the viper. If you know where you valet switch for the alarm is(small black push button), just turn the key forward till everything on the dash lights up, push the valet switch for about one second and let go. The alarm should shut off in a couple seconds. This will allow you to drive the car until you get you remote checked out.
