I was an army soldier so i know you can do this if you do not have a set of rabbit ears you can use a five foot small gauge speaker wire and place it over tv as an antenna take one end peel off some strands so that you can insert it in the center hole of connector without the wire touching the metal ring around (75 ohm),put tv to scan hopefully she can pick up digital channels or local once scan is complete you can then remove the wire once tv detected the channel you only need 1 detected.let me know.

SOURCE: LCD 32 inch Auto Scan issue

I have experienced exactly the same issue on two Westinghouse sets. Try turning the set off when it reaches 83%. When I turn mine off and back on, it has saved the channels -- at least the ones it had found before it got hung up.

SOURCE: Dynex 32" 720 LCD HDTV - no channel listing after run auto scan?

Excuse me but the other answers are written by people who have not actually confronted the problem and are just guessing. They are all wrong. Here's the answer:

If your TV is expecting a TV input, it will keep searching for at least one TV channel on cable or antenna. If you only have a DVD player plugged in, for example, or if your cable is hooked up wrong, so there's no video signal on it, the TV will keep searching forever. (This is an unforgivable design flaw, by the way. But then, it was a cheap TV, wasn't it?)

To solve the problem, look at your remote control. You will find input buttons. Mine are small, along the top, right under the "power" button. Try pressing "video" for example, instead of TV. That stops the TV from hunting for TV channels.

Have a merry Christmas. Enjoy your new TV. Watch it in moderation and eat fruit and vegetables every day.

SOURCE: no pic please run channel auto scan

It means it is not detecting signal etc.

If you had a power outage unplug the set for a short period of time and plug it back----if using a box for signal do the same.

This may allow set or box to reboot and function again.

Also you can try to hook a DVD etc to a rear audio/video input to see if that works.

I just received a Coby TFTV992 9" portable TV. I'm trying to tune the TV channels without success.

1st click the "mode" button on the TV or remote then use the vol. up and down buttons to scroll around until you get to DTV mode then press "enter" on the remote you should get a message "please run channel auto scan" . click "Menu" on the remote the "Picture" screen will come up, keep clicking the vol. up button to scroll past "Audio" then "Setup" then to "Channel" then use the CH up or down buttons to scroll to "Air" click OK , then use the CH down button to scroll to "Scan all channels" then click the vol. up button. it then should start scanning, FYI you have to be fast!

My husband just purchased a iSymphony 19" LCD HD tv. The remote will cut the tv on and off but the menu button on the remote and on the tv does nothing when I press it. Won't allow me to run the...

Yes you should take it back because there isn't supposed to be a trick to getting the menu to pull up the menu. Is there a setup button as well...well that does not make a difference because the menu button on the tv itself is supposed to pull up the menu. If nothing is happening there is something wrong. Sometimes a television will prompt you to begin a setup sequence when you first plug it in including selecting a language, location, and etc. This will lead to the channel scan or ask you if you are connecting it to a cable or satellite box. If none of that was the case then you should return or exchange this television.
