SOURCE: My microwave is sparking from

Hello,

The spark is as a result of partial contact. One or two wires inside the microwave is not contacting very well or maybe the heat from the Oven has melted the wires which is causing electrical burnt smell.

You will have to disassemble the oven and check for any burnt wire and re-connect them.

NOTE: Before you attempt to disassemble the unit, make sure your microwave is unplugged, and that you have discharged the capacitor to avoid electric shock.

Read the tip on the below links on how to replace your microwave oven's diode and how to discharge the capacitor.

Look on the sides and back for a small inspection door. At the corresponding place on the inside, should be an opaque cover where the light shines into the cavity. The inspection door normally has a single screw, remove it and unscrew the bulb. Replace with a new bulb and re-fix the door. An easy 5 minute job. Where is the fuse for whirlpool microwave model number WMH31017HZ07.

The fuse for the Whirlpool microwave model WMH31017HZ07 is located inside the microwave oven. You will need to remove the outer cover of the microwave to access the fuse. Here are the steps to follow:
  1. Unplug the microwave from the power source.
  2. Remove the screws on the top of the microwave that hold the top grill in place. Remove the grill.
  3. Locate the screws that hold the control panel in place. Remove the screws and carefully pull the control panel forward.
  4. Locate the fuse holder on the right side of the control panel. Remove the fuse holder by pulling it out.
  5. Check the fuse to see if it is blown. If it is, replace it with a new fuse of the same type and rating.
  6. Reinstall the fuse holder, control panel, and top grill.
  7. Plug the microwave back in and test to see if the light is working.
If the light still does not turn on after replacing the fuse, there may be another issue with the microwave and it may require further troubleshooting or repair.

How to replace light bulb?

Unplug the oven. Remove the screws holding the top/side cover, then remove the cover. You may have to pull the cover about a 1/4"-1/2" back before you can lift it off.

You may find the lamp socket immediately on the top or the side of the oven cavity, or it may have a sheet metal cover over it (look at the place corresponding to where the light shines into the oven). Use a standard appliance light bulb of the same wattage. You could try an LED replacement of the same lumen rating, but I won't guarantee how long it will last - that depends on how warm it gets up there (LEDs hate heat).

Bulb on ge microwave keeps burning out

Hi anything is possible being that you even replaced two different brands of bulbs. I don't think the wiring harness is the problem but like I said anything could be the problem. Might I make a suggestion. Why not replace both the left and right side bulbs with LED bulbs with the same base configuration. Maybe that just might be able to solve your problem. I would like to know if it does. It also seems that a lot of others are having the exact problem. Good luck.

LG microwave intermittently runs

I would try troubleshooting the "defrost circuit". The behavior sounds like the microwave is cooking in the defrost mode, where it actively cooks then stops allowing the food to rotate and the heat to spread then actively cooking again.

Have an installed GE Microwave jvm1870 with a burned out oven bulb. Have replacement bulb but can not see how to get to the old bulb to replace it.

From the owner's manual:

Cooktop Light/Night Light

On models JVM1850, JNM1851, DVM1850 and EMO4000, replace the burned-out bulb with a 120 volt, 40-watt incandescent bulb (WB36X10003), available from your GE supplier.

On models JVM1870, JVM1871, JVM2050 and JVM3670, replace the burned-out bulb with a 120 volt,
20-watt halogen bulb (WB36X10213), available from your GE supplier.

To replace the bulb(s), first disconnect the power at the main fuse or circuit breaker panel or pull the plug.

Remove the screw at the left edge of the light cover and push on the right edge of the cover to open.

Be sure the bulb(s) to be replaced are cool before removing.

After breaking the adhesive seal, remove the bulb by either gently turning (for models JVM1850, JNM1851, DVM1850 and EMO4000) or pulling straight out (for models JVM1870, JVM1871, JVM2050 and JVM3670).

Replace with the same size and type bulb.

Raise the light shield and replace the screw.

Connect electrical power to the oven.

Oven Light

Replace the burned-out bulb with a 120 volt, 20-watt halogen bulb (WB36X10213), available from your
GE supplier.

To replace the oven light, first disconnect the power at the main fuse or circuit breaker panel or pull the plug.

Remove the top grille by taking out the screws on top of the grille that hold it in place and sliding the grille to the left (opening the door makes grille removal easier).

Next, remove the light cover.

On some models, the light cover is located in the center of the top opening.

Remove the screw that secures the light cover and lift the cover off.

On some models, the light cover is located at the left of the top opening.

Lift the cover off.

Pinch the clips that hold the light socket in place and lift the socket out.

Remove the bulb from the light socket by pulling straight out.

Replace with the same size and type bulb, then replace the light socket and cover.

Replace the grille and screws.

Connect electrical power to the oven.

One surface light bulb on GE Profile microwave keeps burning out

I have the same problem. The left one burns out within a couple of hours use, the other one lasts a couple of months and is then gone. This pattern has repeated over 8 years. I replace them every now and then and then just go without until I get the urge again to fix it. Maybe smaller lower wattage lamps are worth trying...

Replace light in overrange GE microwave

Advantum 120 over range microwave - with burned out interior bulb: Remove top fron grill cover -- held byu 2-3 screws on top. Remove sheetmetal plate that lies parallel to top of unit, just to the right of the square plastic porting on the far left of the unit. The sheet metal plating is about 12" wide and 8" deep and is shaped like 2 overlapping rectangles. It is held in place by 1-2 screws. (I don't recall if you needed to remove other plastic grid on right front -- I did, but I was still searching for the bulb). The bulb is located about 5" from the left side and about 2" in from the front, covered by a small sheetmetal box. THe bulb looks like the little halogen bulbs used in low-voltage outdoor lights - but is slightly larger - DO NOT REPLACE WITH THAT KIND OF BULB). Remove the one screw holding the box, unplug the bulb and find a replacement. Can't tell you where to get a bulb -- that's what I'm doing next. Good luck.
