Delll Inspiron 1545 - after a bit the screen fades as if washed out with some colored streaks. When I touch the keyboard left right scroll buttons it comes back on. Have checked cables and all seated correctly. Placed on external monitor and it ran fine during this issue. I checked the cooling fan and it is running. I had the MB replaced once for another issue and now the warranty is up. I believe the issue is with the video processor but not sure. Alternate solutions to issue would be appreciated.

I'm sure you already have checked this but it's worth a try. Did you check in the control panel area under the Power Options for how long it's set to time out the screen? Sometimes people don't know that they can change how long the screen will stay lit, then time out. In that same area you can set the time for timeout of the Hdd to sleep, closing the lid and what the power button actually does.

Try Screen switch function to switch from Internal screen to External monitor to Both.
Normally FN + F4 (on Compaq or FN + F7 on Lenovo check the Function symbols on your Keyboard: allow few seconds after command to refresh configuration.
try Safe mode also. to check if display shows in VGA format.

Have you updated the video driver?

If yes but problem persist I suspected it's your LCD screen is faulty and needs to be replace.

If your machine is under warrantly no need to pay any fee for the replacement of the part.

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 9400 notebook display blank

Most likely, as you have said, this is already a hardware issue. For hardware issues the best thing to do is to have your system checked out by a local hardware technician. If your video is in fact the issue here then most likely you will be needing replacement for the motherboard now this costs a lot. so you have two choices really, 1) Just get a new laptop because the price of a new one will cost almost as much as replacing the part. 2) Have it fixed by Dell and have the part replaced then ask for warranty reinstatement, if they have one.

If you've reinstalled the drivers for the touchpad, the issue is likely the hardware- if in warranty, contact Dell tech support- if not, you may need to purchase the palmrest assembly and consult support.dell.com for the install instructions

The touchpad on my Inspiron 1545 isn't responding.

If you reinstalled the drivers then most like there is a problem with the touch pad its self. If you are still under warranty I would call Dell Tech Support to get the touch pad replaced on the system.

Left click on touchpad sunk in

These laptops use an active membrane keyboard. The chances are that the membrane has failed. Sorry but you cannot replace the membrane, you must replace the entire keyboard. If the laptop is still under warranty, you may find that Dell will supply a laptop for you to use until yours is repaired or replaced. A word of warning. Make a backup copy of EVERYTHING you want to keep from this laptop. If Dell decide to replace the entire laptop, you will not be able to retrieve this information.

The curser keeps jumping when i type

Hi,
I presume you have a touchpad under your keyboard.
Usually the hand position when you type is such, that it's very easy to involuntarily lighlty touch the touchpad with the base of your thumb, usually the right one, when you move the hand over the touchpad, mostly in the up-left direction.
This causes the cursor to move to some other place, usually up and to the left, resulting in the next characters you type being put in that place :)
Try to keep your hands a little bit more above the touchpad when you type. Also, many touchpad drivers have settings for ignoring light touches/drags, try looking into these settings in your pointing device properties.
As an aid, I would recommend a soft gel wrist support, which automatically elevates your palms above the keyboard.

How do i activate and lock my Fn keys

Unlike previous models, The 1545 has no imbedded Numeric Keypad, so there is no NUMLOCK option.
For numerics, you will have to use the numbers above the QWERTY row.
SCROLL LOCK was also eliminated from the 1545 keyboard (Legacy item, seldom used)
If you need a numeric keypad and/or Scroll Lock, then an external keyboard may be an option.
