The main controller board, or one of the power supplies has failed and require to be replaced.

You should take the microwave oven in for an estimate. I strongly suggest to not service this type of appliance yourself unless you are trained and experienced in microwave oven service.

There are many safety issues when servicing microwave ovens.

Hotpoint microwave only works a few seconds then shows all 8s in the display

Sounds like its time for a new microwave

You can probably buy a new one cheaper then fixing the old one

Most controls that display 888 something is shorted out on the controller.

Have you tried unplugging it for 5 minutes and plugging back in?

Comes on and kicks breaker smells like something is burning

if you smell burning then i would say the transformer is burning and if will trip breaker . some times the mag has failed causing over load to trans and both will have to be replaced. this is a big buck repair . you may want to replace ..

Microwave doesn't heat

check your door safety interlock switches ...

switch burned = no circuit

no circuit = door open (as far as the oven is concerned)

door open = no magnatron action

no magnatron action = no heat

Of course it could be something else ... but if it is the switch, you can easy fix that.

Hotpoint Counter Saver Microwave not working

Please do not try to service. its dangerous to play with the internal parts of a Micro Wave. Most counter tops are pretty inexpensive buy a new one if the warranty is out.

Everything appears to work fine but it is not heating anymore.

If the microwave oven appears to be working but it is not heating the food, it is very possible that the magnetron, or its power supply has failed.
