Leaf blower won't stay running

When first starting, it runs at a reduced speed (choke open), for a few minute and then quits altogether. Is this the result of bad fuel or the wrong mixture, or something completely different ? Wade

Replace fuel with clean fuel with proper oil mix. Also the carb. could need cleaning or diaphragm could need replaced. One thing you would need to check that will not cost much but may save you a lot of trouble is the muffler. Check the muffler for obstructions and remove the muffler and check the exhaust port for carbon buildup.

Two cycle engines have a habit of vibrating enough to cause bolts to come loose. You could have a leaky head gasket or crank cover gasket and still be getting excellent compression at the spark plug. If there are leaks then the piston won't be able to create enough suction on the up stroke to pull the gas/oil mixture from the carb at low rpms

Won stay running

Needs a carb adjustment, cleaning, or possible rebuilt. Try adding a little seafoam and running at half choke for about 5 mins or longer this may clean it up nicely. also check the spark plug.

Toro Power Clear 418 ZE Snow Blower won't stay started

The main jet of your carb is clogged and you need to open carb and clear the obstruction - spray carb cleaner on the bolt that holds the gas container to bottom of carb - also spray all the innards along with any tube that protrudes into the gas can.

Then using air compressor blow the sucker out and reassemble. That should do it.

Homelite mighty lite 26bv gas Blower won't run full speed or only in Full Choke

Sounds like a lean condition. Rebuild carb, replace fuel lines and fuel filter and you should be ready to blow the leaves.

Engine starts fine but lacks power until it warms up for 2 to 5 minutes. Carb is ok, replaced head gasket. Just started doing this

If it starts at completely cold to fine tune the high jet adjustment.first off the high speed jet should be initially set at 1 1/2 turns out from lightly bottomed all the way in. next when you do your prestart routine, choke all the way on,primer pumped two times, throttle set at the high speed position, ignition key on,fuel line turned on.(this is my prestartup for my 8hp tecumseh)yours may be slightly different.use whatever starts your machine the easiest! once my machine starts up i can almost immediately turn the choke completely off. i can do that because the high speed jet is opened enough or rich enough for the engine to run.if you adjust the high speed in it will lean the motor out(you found that to be true!) to where it will miss and backfire and eventually quit. start at 1 1/2 turns out and start the engine, once the engine starts if you take the choke off right away use what it does as a guide to high speed adjustment. if the engine quits turn the screw out 1/4 turn and so on.use the very first cold startup as the test for high speed mixture adjustment. at completely cold startup you have the jet adjusted correctly when the engine will sustain itself when you completely take the choke off very shortly after startup. let the amount of choke you need at cold start to keep the engine running be your guide.too lean and the engine will not stay running without the choke at all,too rich and the engine will not pull under extreme loads and will show signs of black soot out the exhaust. you want the jet adjusted so within 5 seconds of cold start the engine will stay running with no choke at all. find that needle setting ( don't ad any more!! ) and you'll be good to go.keep in mind the above is not optimum and is a little rich but you will like the way it starts, stays running, and overall performs as adjusted above.

Blower will only run on full choke ryobi ry08578

They aren't designed to run with full choke on, the choke is for starting cold engines only, many times you can choke them pull the cord a few times and then turn the choke off or turn it down to start it. Then slowly reduce the choke until it runs fine on its own.

Blower does not stay running

Make sure you have the propper mix of gasoline and oil. If the fuel is old mix new fuel to proper ratio. Find your manual and find the low speed fuel adjustment and the high speed fuel adjustment on the engine. First, turn the screws in and count the turns so you know where you started. Return the screws to the origional position. Usually 2 to 2-1/2 turns are a good starting point if you get them messed up. If the engine runs with the choke on you have to open the high speed jet a bit, 1/4 turn CCW. Keep trying this and get the feel of the change in the engine performance. If you have too much fuel the engine will not get to peak RPM. The low speed jet works similar but you have to adjust it so the engine idles at a decent RPM. This should get you on the path.
