Yes you're right. Use SSC service utility or RX680 Adjsument program. Find at indoreset.blogspot.com. Don't forget to replace waste ink pad, or just extend outlet pipe of head cleaning mech to outside.

Well Rene its a sort of con trick by epson to make money from service. Get the ink tanks to pop out to the centre ( 0on startup of the run and take a torch and look back at the home base of the cassettes you should see a black square that is a sponge. carefully pick this up with tweezers or somthing that wont damage it.
Use blotting or kitchen paper and press the sponge in it to remove excess ink. wile the tray out and replace the sponge. Sometimes a small amount of like warm water and a few drops of bleach will dissolve the ink on the sponge.
Replace the sponge carefully ensuring it sits flat. repower the machine and it should now work OK You have just saved yourself $120 dollar service fee
please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA

Epson programmed their printer to monitor the waste ink counter and
your printer has reached the maximum value allowed, you have to reset
your printer to clear the waste ink counter.
You may read the information regarding "end of life" and "waste ink counter" here: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/InkPadsForm.jsp
To reset the counter, download re-setter program here, install and follow the instruction in the web site.

Hi, Many
of the Epson printers ink cartridges have a sensor that allow the printer and
the associated software know when to replace the printer ink cartridges (even
when the cartridges have ink within them) and/or when the printer needs to be
cleaned. In some cases you can bypass this message by following either of the
below steps Try
both the below steps 1.Use printer buttons
to reset: Use the printer
buttons to reset the printer by pressing and holding the "Stop",
"Maintenance", and "Power" buttons all at the same time. Other Epson models
such as the RX620 require you press and hold the "Stop",
"B&W", and "Power" buttons all at the same time 2.In addition to the
above recommendation users can install a third-party utility that will allow
you to adjust and customize many of the settings including the sensor that
generates this message. You can download the third party utility from below
website. http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml In this website it
self all the steps are given.
Thank You
