Problem with Maytag Chest Freezer model MQC1557aew.

Hello
I've got a Maytag Chest Freezer in my garage for about 3 years now. Today the freezer stopped working.
I have a GFI outlet in my garage, i pressed the reset button and the freezer worked for 2 seconds then tripped the GFI outlet and shut off again.
I used an extension cord and plugged it inside my house and the freezer is working fine now but something is definitely wrong, can you please tell me what is going on?
Thanks

    Hi

Thanks for helping out with my problem.

The condensor coils are located within the walls of my freezer.

I looked under the freezer to see if there was any access to the coils but there is a metal plate covering the bottom of the freezer and i believe it's glued on because i saw some excess glue.

I cleaned the compressor area as best i could and nothing seems to look wrong down there.

Very strange that the freezer works when i plug it inside my house but when i plug it into any outlet in the garage the GFI outlet gets tripped.

I plugged my air compressor into an outlet in my garage and it works fine, i also plugged a small 4ft x 2ft commercial cooler in my garage outlet and that also works fine.

First make sure than the condensing coil in the freezer is clean of dust and dirt(it is behind the grill vent in the bottom side of the freezer where the compresor is) If it is clough brush the dirt off after you unplugit. When is clean wait a few minutes ,5, and plugg it back at the GFI outlet and see if work If still tripped the outlet you may have to replace it.

Why can't a Haier chest freezer be put in garage?

The only problem that you might have is with the coils and the flux capacitor. If you clean the coils, it should be fine.

Kelvinator Model UF 510 caught fire on top of the compressor. Is this a common failure.

Hi,
No, It is very unusual for a freezer compressor to catch fire...while they can run very warm alot they do not get that hot unless there is the failure of a couple of things at once..

Moving, CA to Florida and want ot load a chest freezer on its end

You could expect internal compressor oil to flow into areas which would restrict refrigerant flow, resulting in no cooling. If you have to ship on end, make sure the compressor end is down !

Chest freezer not getting cold after moving

IS the compressor running? If so u probably cracked a line and lost the refrigerant charge.

Top mounted freezer on refrigerator not working

Move the refrigerator to a room that is at least 50 degrees F.

Temps on most refrigerators are regulated by the fresh foods temp. If your garage is let's say 35 degrees, the fresh foods temp will most likely never raise enough to turn the refrigerator on. With the refrigerator never running, the freezer compartment will warm to 35 degrees, resulting in everything melting. Even if garage is a bit warmer, say 45, the refrig will not run long enough for the freezer to maintain a low enough temperture. If the garage temp falls to below freezing, say 20 degrees, the food in the fresh foods compartment will freeze. (outdoor beverage dispensers have internal heaters to prevent product from freezing !) Please don't rate this if not a Fix-Ya for you, as anything else lowers my score.

Maytag chest freezer mac1557aew does not get cold

This can be a number of things, one being a bad compressor/motor.
Does it run at all?
If not, the compressor needs to be looked at.
If you are handy, there may be a wiring schematic in the back to further troubleshoot.
You can trace the wiring from the thermostat to see if there is power at other components.
