Help for technics 1200 MK2 and 1210 Speed is too fast

How can I slow down the internal speed of a technics 1200 turntable? they are both in excellent condition however a servicer set them to a point where at ''0'' they are as fast as +1.5-2. They play faster than needed. What can I readjust to get them back to a normal speed?

not the pitch control at a true zero, what happened was it was serviced and the tech did something on the adjustment that speeds of the turntable. 0 is lik +2, +2 is as fast as +4, I need to know what internal adjustment I must make to slow it down, like the brake adjustment screw.

On the 1200MK2 the pitch control slider is for just that purpose. Disregard the 0 setting and use the illuminated strobe marks on the platter to adjust to nominal speed. When they appear to be motionless you are there. The control on the 1210 may be a knob but the same principles apply.

If a non-zero zero reading on the slider is unacceptable you might just take it back to the guy who modified it. Is it not possible to just use the strobe on the platter to find true zero?

If we can't help you with an internal adjustment - is it not possible, using the unit's theoretical -8% speed capacity, to find true zero until an answer can be found? Or is the speed control broken?

Great. Good job. Thanks for the feedback.

Have a look at the bottom of the turntable. This type of turntable often have speed adjusters. They might be covered by a sticky label or something. If you can't see that go inside by removing the bottom and look inside for them. There should be two, one for each speed.

When i turn on my technic 1200 turntable it the lights flicker and looses audio sometimes

Hi, i doubt the 2 are related as the T 1200 doesnt have a preamp, only speed control.

Maybe try checking to if there are any loose ground wires in the turntable (ONLY if you are comfortable to open)

Other than that it the sound issue might be either on the head, or on the phono outs not connecting properly.

If the speed is remaining good, then the issue is just with the LEDS themselves, maybe loose solder, if it is changng pitch as well, then dry joints in the power supply/pitch control

Hope that helps

Braking not working right

Well, does the platter spin at a constant speed (33 or 45 rpm), or does it spin super fast? If it spins at a constant speed, and it just wont stop, replacing that pot should do the trick (VR201 can be purchased HERE). You can attempt to replace it yourself (soldering skills are required), or just buy the part, and have a service tech replace it for you.

If it does not solve the problem, then the issue is with one of the IC's (integrated circuits). This is a more complex diagnosis and repair. But try replacing VR201 first, then taking it from there.

Good luck!
