Can't get audio on Bearcat 244CLT scanner, or get any of the buttons to operate properly. Can set the clock, but that's it. Volume and Squelch set all the way to right, not even static sound. Nothing on the WX (weather) channel either. When I first received it this morning, turned it on, the weather station was working, but nothing else. Seemed to be stuck in that mode. Turned the set off and when I turned it back on even that lost it's audio. The AC adapter is working fine, because I tried it out on my other 144 scanner. Would GREATLY appreciate any advice you may offer.

You can try a master reset. This will delete any frequencies that are programmed. Here is the way to do a reset...
Turn scanner off. Hold down, 2-9-HOLD (all three keys at once)while turning on the scanner. Keep holding the keys down for about 3 seconds. The word CLEAr should come up on the screen.

Uniden bearcat scanner wont scan

Make sure the volume is up a little and then make sure the squelch is set so you do not hear any static (white noise). Also make sure the lock button is not on. Depending on the model, make sure the channels are not locked out in the menu. Make sure there are frequencies programmed in the channels. If these suggestions don't work, tell us more about the scanner like model number, how many channels, crystal or programmable, etc.

Speaker hum in Bearcat 210XL Scanner.

Nice old scanner, key word is old. Probably an electrolytic capacitor in the power supply is dried-up and needs replacement. Do you get the hum if you operate the radio off of 12VDC?

Manual for Bearcat Scanner BC 140 10 channel

I couldn't locate a manual for your oldie, but it's fairly simple to operate.

  1. Turn the scanner ON.
  2. Press "Manual" to stop scanning. Use the keyboard to choose the channel you want to enter your first frequency into. If you want channel 2, press the number 2 on the keyboard and then "Manual" again. If you want channel 12, press the 1 and then the 2 and then "Manual" again.
  3. Enter the desired frequency, including the decimal point. For instance, if the frequency is 555.789, enter 5, 5, 5 and then the dot button, then 7, 8 and 9. Then press "Enter" to complete the setup.
  4. Use the "Manual" button to move to the next channel to enter the next frequency. Continue this process until you have all frequencies entered.
  5. Complete your entries and then press "Scan." Set the squelch by turning the "Squelch" knob all the way up and backing off until you hear no static.
  6. Lock out a channel that is annoying you by pressing the "Lockout" button. If you want to listen to the channel again, simply select "Manual," find the channel by entering it on the keypad and then hit "Lockout" again

Won't stop scanning

L16 Disc coil needs adjustment, Audio is slightly off, and improper noise to DC squelch level detect used to stop scan on active channel. Set to an on freq signal like a NOAA weather channel, and useing a non-metallic tool, adjust to best sounding audio, probably less than a half turn either direction. An on freq signal moduated by 1000hertz, connect scope to speaker and adjust for highest undistorted recovered audio would be better if you could.

Unable to quit the squelch

This is an internal problem that can only be repaired by a technician familiar with Bearcat scanners. If you live near NJ, call 973-831-5900.

Bc72xlt-no audio/sound/ kids pressing buttons then no sound

The best I can tell you is try readjusting the volume and squelch again. Turn your volume up then adjust the squelch all the way one way and then all the way the other way. At one of the max settings you should get static noise. This should allow you to see if there is any noise coming out of the scanner.

If you get noise then recheck to see that the scanner is programmed correctly. If it has no frequencies or frequencies with no traffic on them, you will not hear them.

If there was no audio with the squelch then you may want to consider that there is a bigger problem. Page 53 in your manual describes how to reset your scanner. This might work as a last ditch effort. You will lose all of your current programming though.

Hope this helps
