I need to replace the actuator pivot arm on my Hoover Wind Tunnel to fix the self propel feature. I can see where it needs to go but I can not seem to get the cover off the vacuum so I can get to it. How do I do this?

I just did this; it wasn't easy, but i succeeded. Buy part online from Sears parts; they have it. (38458022) Pull off the plastic dial indicator from the top of the vac. Put it in your pocket. Pry off the plastic housing by pulling it away from the body. It will pull off. Slide the belt off the pulley. Remove the motor and handle and bag(it is easy: four phillips screws on top. I had to replace one of the motor retainers because it had snapped. Now comes the hard part. Pry out the old lever using screwdrivers and force. Slide the new lever down into the gap so that the pins go into the holes. It was not an easy job, but I did succeed.  Good Luck.   Jim B

My hoover wind tunnel just quit while vacuuming. It is dead??? Two years old used about every other week? Any suggestions?

Some Wind Tunnels by Hoover have a poor design in the switch on the handle. Sometimes the switch does not turn on all the way and will stop running. Other times you can't turn the unit off.

Why won't hoover wind tunnel self-propel?

Hi there! The self-propelled feature is controlled by a belt. Check the belts on your Hoover Windtunnel by following these quick steps.

1. Recline the handle. Lay the cleaner fat and flip it over to expose nozzle base.
2. Remove the screws attaching the nozzle.
3. Check that the belts are not broken, stretched or damaged.

Replace the belts if they are damaged. Hope this helps!

Can't lower handle on Hoover wind tunnel vac U6432-900

Anne, Do you mean that when you depress the pedal on the left side of the machine body that you can't get the upper portion to release into a lower mode? Or are you fully depressing the pedal?? As for the switch for the self propelled mode, that's actually just a small button that you move around in the slot of the handle to select which mode you want to use. It's not actually a switch. If you are fully depressing the handle release pedal and it's not releasing, you should take it to the store where you purchased it, if it was a vacuum store. If you bought it at a big box store, then you'll need to take it to some repair shop that does warranty work, if it's within the warranty period of course.

Hoover wind tunnel upright self propelled. U6473-900. Brush does not work. Heard it was a 'brush controller' problem and can be fixed. Please tell me how.

Most likely the flat belt has stretched enough so as to not turn the pulley that in turn turns the brush roll using a V belt. Also there is a small idler wheel, if hook up, then it won't engage the V belt.

HOW DO I REPLACE THE DRIVE BELT ON A HOOVER WIND TUNNEL SELF PROPELLED

Take the brush belt and slip it over the pull into the groove. Then take the flat belt and hook onto the motor shaft and then pull belt over pull and push it around the entire pulley. It can be difficult but after the first time it is easy. You have to push the belt up with your thumbs so the belt will wrap all the way around

Self propelled wind tunnel vacum will notpropell itself

Must be a Hoover, The flat belt may look ok but I am sure it has stretched to the point where under load it won't drive the wheels or the brush roll. Could also be a bad brush roll.
