The patch keeps getting bigger. there are about 1" thick vertical white lines about 2 - 3 inches apart on the screen appearing as well. but that's not seen when viewing TV. But the white patches are persistent.

If the lines are there all the time or intermittent but in the same location it is an indication of a bad panel. The panel driver can also be the cause of this symptom. Samsung panels have had issues with the connector that carries the LVDS signals to the panel itself, this is not serious and can be resolved and little cost. Joe Weibel

This maybe the symptom of a bad Panel. One Vertically This line is 99% bad panel. Call your warranty provider or SONY tech support if purchased under 2 years.

SOURCE: My SOny Bravia 40 inch LCD TV has a vertical line
Hi,
It could be 1 of 4 things:
1. One of the ribbon cables has worked itself loose (Simple Fix)
2. One of the assembly boards maybe faulty
3. The driver board which feeds the panel maybe faulty
4. The panel is faulty
The driver board in the UK costs approx £70 and approx £35-70 to fit it if this is the fault.
All other parts are between £80-160 and approx £35-70 to fit it if this is the fault.
The panel will cost approx 50-75% of what the TV was worth when you bought it - "Repair versus Replacement"
Thanks

not as yet I have a friend who will check it for me.....it seems as though whenever it is very cold and raining on the screen ...the whiteness (spots) tend to spread....what do you think is causing this problem, meybe moisture or something is loose?
