There are two causes for this. One that there is a fault on the amp that is causing an overload circuit to trip and shut itself down. Or the settings of your speakers levels are wrong. So you are turning it up to hear the quiet parts of movies and therefore when louder sections come along your are driving the amp too much.
Some DVD discs that have THX on them have a sound set up on them. If you have one access the THX sound menu on the disc and adjust your speakers to produce the correct levels. If it does happen after that there's a fault.
By the way most of the George Lucas films (Star Wars) will have THX on them.

SOURCE: Yamaha HTR-6130 Front right and left speakers with no sound

As simple as this sounds, try hitting the speaker a/b button on the front of the unit, next to the headphone jack. I had the same problem, and was about to package the whole thing back up and go back to Best Buy when I hit this button and then the audio test worked.

SOURCE: HTR-6130 will not turn on

Hi

Does the receiver have a switch that allows you to turn off all the speakers?
If so,turn them off and see if the problem stays.

If it still kicks off then , one of the power amp outputs has failed and it will require some fixing

SOURCE: what's NEC PF68S33 TV's remote control code for YAMAHA HTR-6130

I had similar problem when setting up the YAMAHA remote control for my NEC LCD TV. At the end I found I did not follow the YAMAHA manual properly. Did you hold down the DTV/CBL button, and AT THE SAME TIME press the AV POWER for 3+ seconds? You should be able to "REMOTE SETUP OK" displayed in the front panel of the YAMAHA AV receiver. Hope this helps. BTW, only the TV POWER, TV MUTE and the numeric buttons work in my case.

SOURCE: trying to program my Receiver, a Yamaha HTR 6130 to the AUX on my Comcast remote, but neither of the codes they gave me seem to be working.

Do a code search from comcast. If you have the Comcast manual it shows you how to search for codes manually, it can take 15 to 20 minutes for you to do it, however, it should fid your code. The only drawback is that you can only control the volume and power, you won't have input or soundfield control. Hope this helps

I have a Yamaha NS HTR 6130 Receiver,it will power on and then it shuts down after 5 seconds of powering on and it will not power back on until i unplug the power cord and plug it back in?

5 seconds shut down: dc protection triggered. (DC outputted from speaker terminals.)Make sure +B and -B are equal first . The problem also comes from voltage amp circuit board including differential amp and constant current source but power transistors mounted are ok. Remember to download HTR 6130 service manual .

HTR-6130 will not turn on

Remove all speakers from the receiver and try powering it up again. If it still shuts down odds are it needs repair of one of the output channels.
