Cannot record copy protected message

I have a Samsung dvd-vr375 recorder and am trying to copy old vhs tapes recorded off of hbo, starz, etc. to dvd. I am getting an error message that says that I can't record copy protected video. Is there anything I can do to bypass this and copy successfully?

I am not doing anything illegal. These tapes are ones that I have personally recorded stuff off of TV. Is this something that HBO, Starz, etc. is adding to their programs that is preventing me from converting from my recorded VHS to DVD?

OLD FBI WARNING USED TO ALLOW YOU TO MAKE BACKUP COPIES BUT THEY CHANGED IT KNOW THAT NOT EVEN THAT'S ALLOWED

OLD FBI WARNING DID NOT WANT YOU TO SELL, CHARGE FOR WATCHING BASICALLY MAKING A PROFIT OFF YOUR COPY

NOW YOU CAN NOT EVEN MAKE A BACKUP FOR YOURSELF

HBO, SHOWTIME, ETC ARE MOVIES CHANNELS SO IF YOU RECORDING OFF THOSE CHANNEL YOU ARE TECHNOLOGY COPYING ILLEGALLY

Hello billwade1216,

I'm sorry to inform you but we are unable to disclose those types of details as it is Illegal, and against Fixya's policy.

Sorry for any misunderstandings, thank you for trying Fixya!

Yes there are copy protections hence the warning message. The line of legal and Illegal are so very vague these day's it's a real shady business. What I meant is that we can not explain how to get around copy right protection as THAT is Illegal. I didn't imply that you were doing anything Illegal.

Is it possible to copy video from a vhs to a dvd?

If the DVD drive is a recorder, yes. If it is a player only, no. If the tape is copy-protected, recording to a DVD recorder is not possible. Assuming the tapes are not copy-protected, and you are using a DVD recorder with the correct format DVDs (DVD-R for example), you shouldn't have any problems transferring old VHS tapes to DVD.

I cannot copy commercially recorded VHS tapes to DVD. Msg comes up saying it is COPY PROTECTED. Heard that if for personal use only I am permitted to copy tapes. Any way around this?

No,this can be done only copyright materials through the VHS box converter run through a computer with a programs call copy decoders programs.Than u can copy VHS copy protected matrials.Than u reburn it back to DVD disc.So this require alot of work, time and money so not worth it to copy commercially VHS tapes to DVD Disc.

VR5940 DVD Recorder/VCR-Thinks a regular VHS tape is copyright protected

Don't know your machine, but is it possible that it's seeing your source tape as write protected (missing tab) and so assuming it should not be copied to the DVD?

Copying vhs to dvd

The write-protect tab on the cartridge is set to "PROTECT" or the disc is protected witht the "DVD Management" settings.
Some video tapes on the market(including rental videos) are copy-protected to prevent illegal reproductions. Copy-protected video tapes cannot be properly recorded.
You cannot use the copying function when the FUNCTIONS window, the Scheduled Recording List screen, etc. are displayed.
I hope this information can be of some help to you all. Ms Tanya 2/12/08 3:54AM CST.
