Just use your USB cable that came with the GPS. You may have to download a Driver from Garmin when you first try to connect. Next download a program at Garmin Support called WEBUPDATER. You will be good to go.

How to upgraid my device?

If you're refering to upgrading your Navigation software, QuickGPSfix data and/or your current (out-dated) map, you can do it by connecting to the TomTom website (www.TomTom.com) using the TomTom HOME or MyDrive Connect software, depending on the model/version of your GPS device.

If you're refering to upgrading your GPS hardware/equipment, to have more capability/features, the device is not hardware upgradable, except for adding/using an SD card with a higher storage/memory capacity (to store more info/maps, etc.) ... provided you have a GPS device with an SD card slot.

You'll want to consider buying a newer model with more capabilities / features than what you have now.

7200 won't hold full North America upgrades. Can memory be increased?

Try this: Maximize your GPS Memory Your Garmin StreetPilot 7200 has limited storage space for waypoints, routes, and tracks. Once you reach that limit, your GPS can't hold any more data. Smart ExpertGPS users have figured out how to eke out every last bit of memory space on their Garmin GPS receivers. Before each outdoor adventure or visit to a project site, they use ExpertGPS to back up the contents of their GPS, and then clear the GPS data memory. They can then download as much data as possible onto their GPS (leaving some room for GPS data collection out in the field). When they get back, they use ExpertGPS to upload all of their Garmin waypoints, routes, and tracks onto their computer and save it. Once they've backed up the new data from their GPS, they can clear the memory again, keeping their GPS ready for their next trip.

When i connect my garmin to my computer it will not go into usb mode

Hello,

If you are connecting the GPS via USB and find that it does not go into mass storage mode the first thing to do would be to try your other USB ports. If this does not work try to get it to connect to someone else's PC. If you are unable to do this the unit will have to be sent off for warranty or repair. For your unit I would recommend just upgrading to something a little bit newer, it would be more cost effective and leave you will a newer more up to date unit.

Hope this helps!

I just bought a Garmin 265WT. I ran the registration program, but the computer does not recognize the Nuvi. I've checked My Computer and it does not show a new drive ( the Nuvi should like like a drive...

Hi,

Try these steps:-

  • Unplug the USB cable from the computer.
  • Turn the unit off and then back on again.
  • Plug the USB cable into your computer.
  • The unit either automatically goes into USB Mass Storage Mode or displays USB Mass Storage Mode as an option on the screen.

Note: If your computer still does not detect the unit, make sure that you plug the USB cable directly into the computer USB port and not the USB hub. If the cable is already plugged directly into the computer, try plugging it into a different port.

Also, in some cases the operating system does not support the device. Try upgrading it to the next higher level. In most of the cases windows Xp service pack 2 does not recognise this Garmin device. Try upgrading it to service pack 3.
If you are still experiencing the problem then you will need to contact Garmin for repair.
Thanks for using Fixya.
Good Luck and have a nice day.

Can't hear incoming calls (they can hear me) after using GPS/bluetooth navigation

Since I don't have a GPS, I haven't had this problem myself, but one thought does come to mind.

Does your Bluetooth Manager correctly identify your GPS? If it is misidentified as a hands-free connection, for example, the SX-66 may be sending incoming audio to your GPS. Try checking your Bluetooth Manager next time you connect your GPS, and/or deleting the existing GPS profile and setting up a new connection for it.
