I have a Janame Harmony 8080 and the bobbin case has always seemed to be loose. I was just sewing the other day and the whole bobbin case came out. I can't manage to get it into the right spot. I don't know if you can help me or if i have to take it to be repaired....... or is it cheaper to just buy a new machine.... FRUSTRATED!!!!

Call your local Janome dealer with your questions. May be premature to purchasing another machine if this can be fixed by simply replacing a part.

Local repair guys usually have spare parts and can fix these quickly.

Most likely is that the reverse mechanism is jammed with old oil and lint to form a glue.......especially if the machine has not been used recently or regularly.
If you can remove the base plates from underneath easily, then try to operate the reverse lever, you will see a metal lever trying to move a collar around the shaft......apply a small amount of WD40 or similar to both sides of the join then press the reverse rapidly for a while, move it by hand if necessary back and forth..........with regular use this is rarely an issue, it is most common when the machine is idle for long periods.
If you cannot remove base plates easily, ie if the case is split down the middle in 2 sections, take it to a Janome Dealer who has the repair manual as trying to split the case yourself without the manual is very difficult and you will probably break the retaining clips.

SOURCE: SIMILAR PROBLEM OF TOP THREAD ACCUMULATING IN BOBBIN AREA

it sounds like a needle threading problem. if you have the instruction book, pull yout needle thread off the machine and re-thread as per the book ie presser foot up and make sure thread goes betwen tension discs and up over takeup lever.

to check needle tension is ok, lower presser foot and pull needle thread through needle, the needle thread should be tight enough to bend the needle a little.

goodluck,

scott.

Which parts on my Harmony 8080 (Janome) sewing machine do I oil.

Do you have a manual? Most Janomes have a sealed oil system meaning you don't ever oil anything besides the little wick under the bobbin case, just one drop now and then.

The top stich is loose on my Janome Harmony 8100, I have cleaned and changed bobbins, but nothing seems to help.

Ok, Let's understand exactly what is going on. You said. "the top stitch is loose." So that we are clear....do you mean that you are getting loops on top of the seam? Or do you mean that you are getting wiggly stitches on top and small loops on the bottom of the seam? It's important to know... Because loops underneath means the top tension isn't right. Maybe you didn't thread with the presser foot in the UP position... or your tension is dialed too low.

Now, if you are getting loops on top of the seam... that means the top tension is too tight. Loosen the top tension. Make sure your bobbin is inserted correctly. If loosening top tension isn't enough, you may have to tighten the tension screw on the bobbin case/ or bobbin carrier.

Re-curring loose bobbin case

According to the manual, this is a drop-in bobbin.

If the bobbin case came loose, the needle would probably hit it and brake.

Take the bobbin out.

Turn of the power and remove the needle plate (under the presser foot).

Raise the needle to it's highest position and lift out and reset the bobbin case into the shuttle. This should be in the maintenance section of the manual. The bobbin case should fit snug.

Make sure the thread is feeding from the bobbin, counter-clockwise and through the guides on the bobbin case.

For a rotary bobbin with a metal bobbin case.

Remove the bobbin case. Make sure the thread is feeding clock-wise and through the guide on the side of the bobbin case.

Raise the needle to it's highest position - this puts the hook at the lower left. Left the tab on the back of the bobbin case and slip the bobbin case back into the shuttle with the "arm" straight up. You may have to move the bobbin case a bit to the left or right for it to snap into place.

If the problem persits, take the machine back to the dealer - there should not be a charge for fixing this as it is brand new - keep your receipt and warranty information at hand.

Thread is knotting up under the feed dog plate getting error LO.I tried removing the plateand cleaning and replaced bobbinholder and it is still jamming. is there supposed to be any play in the bobin...

It should move a little so the thread has clearence. If the thread is bunching underneath, it usually means the thread's not in the take-up lever or top tension is too loose. If you're needle has hit the bobbin case and created needle marks, the thread can get caught... in which you'd need to replaced the bobbin case.

Janome Harmony 8080 showing SP in the display and I can't find my manual. I know I've had this issue before and the manual had the solution but I without the manual, I can't seem to fix it

SP means the bobbin winder is engaged. Move the spooler (where you put the bobbin when you wind it) to the left and your display will go back to normal.

Needle won't move; something stuck/dislodged

Can you remove the bobbin? Sometimes when thread gets bunched up under the lower plate it will force the bobbin out of position. Try taking it out and cleaning any loose thread and lint from the area. Put a couple of drops of oil on the outside of the bobbin case and re-insert it. Make sure you lower the needle and pull the bobbin thread through to the top and back behind the needle before beginning to sew again.
Hope this works!
