My food saver is a model vac540 and i have found the problem to be the vacuum switch that closes the circuit for the heat strip that seals the bag. It must be broke or frozen and switch does not close. My question is ; can it be fixed if so how is it done? If it can't be fixed ; where do i go to get replacement vacuum switch? Thanks

You might check with RepairClinic.com. They may have the switch or know where to locate it.

SOURCE: Foodsaver Food Sealer Vacuum V2240 T: Foodsaver Professional II Turbo. Vacuum pump work...

This is likely happening because the unit cannot detect that a vacuum has formed, and as a result, the unit never "turns on" the heating element to seal the bag, with the gaskets around the vacuum channel being the probable culprit. The Foodsaver gaskets will deform and/or dry out with time, just like in any device, but you don't necessarily have to replace them. I've tried this inexpensive solution on my own Foodsaver V2490, and it works perfectly.
Buy some food-grade silicone grease and apply it to both the upper and lower gaskets. I remove the gaskets and coat both sides with a thin layer of grease before replacing them in their respective channels. And since this grease will be absorbed and/or dry out with time, you will have to do this occasionally, so I also flip the gaskets (i.e. turn them over) whenever I apply the grease.
You can buy a 2 oz container of silicone grease at any dive store, or you can buy it over the Internet by searching for "Trident silicone grease".
This is a link where you can buy it for around $7.00:
Dolphin Dive Center
I do not work at this dive center, but I am a scuba diver and already had some grease that I use for the numerous rubber gaskets in my gear. The 2 oz. jar will last you several years, and you will find many other uses for it around the house since the grease will last longer than a spray.

SOURCE: My foodsaver v2240 will no

On the lids underside, on the left and right, you will see two black rubber round bumpers. These are the switch activators. Use the back (not the tip) of a pen on push lightly on both sides you should hear a clicking sound when the switch makes contact. Sometimes they do get stuck and cause the vacuum not to finish it's cycle.

Cannot get it to vacuum.

Does it try to vacuum but never flattens the bag? Make sure the bag you are using is completely sealed on the opposite end. Otherwise, the seal on the sealer is probably allowing air to leak into the sealer. If it has a foam sealer, I've found it sometimes helps to run the foam sealer under water, squeeze out the excess water, reinsert the foam sealer (make sure it is seated all the way) and then try again to seal the bag.

V3840 heat strip doesn't get hot

Could be the heating element (wire that gets hot enough to melt plastic) is going bad, how long have you been sealing bags with the unit? If you have used it for some time there is the possibility of build up plastic/residue on the the wire or the surface that actually comes in contact with the bag as I would suspect there is a coated surface the element heats up as opposed to the element / wire coming in contact with the plastic itself!

Foodsaver troubleshooting

The same thing happened to mine and I found a really, really inexpensive way to resolve it. I don't use original foodsaver bags and I found out that their thickness might not be detected correctly so it won't vacuum. To compensate for this, I used an ordinary piece of notebook paper. I cut it to a size of 4 1/2" by 1 1/2". I set the long side in the middle of the liquid catching tray and let it lean back towards the heat strip. Make sure it doesn't cover the heat strip or it won't seal. Now I inserted the bag as the directions say, close and lock the top, and it vacuums and seals perfectly. b40a3e78-1fd3-4c38-9291-c5c4e3885648.jpg

Food saver V485 heat sealer isn't sealing my bags when closing one end to make an bag.

Heating Element / Wire - After heavy use of the vacuum sealer, it is natural for the heating element to break. The amount of seals per sealing wire is dependent on your timer setting, how often you use your vacuum sealer and how thick your vacuum bags are. When you replace the heating element, we usually recommend you replace the sealing strip as well. Different machines have different sizes of heating elements but we carry five stock elements.

My Rival food saver does not vacuum air out

We discovered we were not moving the bags in far enough to be grabbed properly. After pushing in the bag before closing the unit we found it started sealing properly. This was on an older system, so be sure the bags you're sealling are between the black rubber rectanglar sections before closing the door.

If this is for a canister, be sure the rubber around the lid is seated properly. The rubber can be removed, cleaned and wiped dry. Clean out the lid and dry it too. Reseat the rubber seal and try again... Hope this helps.

Foodsaver compact vac 550 sealing strip doesn't seal

My machine stopped working because the sealing ribbon was broken and the tape was worn. FoodSaver no longer does repairs. I knew the wire was called nichcome ribbon so I searched that. I checked the resistance of the ribbon on my machine, it was about 3.8 ohms. I found a site called mpakonline.com and from their site I bought 1/16 x .005 nichrome ribbon and 3/8 x 5 MIL. x 18 YD Acrylic Teflon Tape. The total cost of these items was about $36.00, the ohm value of their ribbon was 1.66 somewhat less.I used ends from radio shack made the repair and it has been working fine for the last two months and I have enough material leftover for about ten more repairs.
