Booted computer and sound stopped working ESS es1869f

The icon disappeared from the system tray and I found the link in Start menu but the link was dead and then after rebooting the link was also gone and also there was nothing in the system that even indicated that there had been a sound mixer/controller. I have another hard drive so I replaced the one (no sound) with the other and sound worked fine, so I would assume the mother board is ok and the problem must be with the OS which is Win98SE on both hard drives. The mother board is a 97 Compaq desk pro using a Pentium 2 w/512mb ram. everything else is working perfectly. ESS es1869f I think was the mapper/controller

EMU 0404 PCI express. Will not start with computer. I Have to start PatchMix manually on every start-up. John.

When you do have ParchMix up and running, single-right-click the blue striped icon in your system tray (lower right corner of screen) and choose Restore Defaults from the popup menu. By default, PatchMix should start each time your computer is booted up.

All my icons including browser have disappeared off the desktop after shutting down and re-booting. How do I fix this and stop it from happening again?

What you can do is place the icons back on to the desktop by dragging from start-menu and simply creating a shortcut. Then restart the computer and tell me if the problem still exists.

Volume icon keeps disappearing from system tray

Volume Control - The volume icon does not appear in the notification area (system tray)
Go to Start/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices.
On the Volume Tab under Device Volume, put a check in the box that reads: Place volume icon in the taskbar.(Classic View)

If that has been tried:
Place your XP CD in then go to Start/Run and type in:
EXPAND -R X:\I386\powrprof.dl_ C:\Windows\System32 (X- is your CD location)
Once done: Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 stobject.dll

After booting my Dell Latitude D610 now I can not connect internet wireless. It looks like I don't have the drivers for internet and I can not install internet in my laptop.... please help!

You may just need to restart the Wireless Zero service. Right click on My Computer and select Manage. When the Computer Management console opens up, expand Services and Applications on the left side and click on Services. Scroll down to where you see Wireless Zero Configuration and click Restart (or if it is stopped, click Start).

Close the Services window, and right click on your wireless icon in the system tray and choose "View Available Wireless Networks." Click "Change Advanced Settings" on the left side, then under the Wireless Network tab put a check next to "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings." Then click OK.

Can you connect wirelessly now?

All of the icons from the screen disappeared!

try to reboot your computer into safe mode.

To use a Safe Boot option, follow these steps:
  1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
  2. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
  3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.
Then click start
click run
type in msconfig
uncheck everything under the startup tab except your antivirus
and reboot

Desktop and start menu is missing what can i do

Is the desktop there with no icons?

Did you put the mouse cursor down where the system tray should be to see if it was on Auto-Hide?

Did you try and right click on the mouse with the cursor anywhere on the desktop to see if a pop-up menu appeared?

Sometimes when computer games are played the game changes the resolution on the monitor putting all the icons off screen, so by right clicking on the mouse and left clicking on properties the display properties will come up and when you go into settings you can restore them.

If none of this applies to your situation then
On boot up keep pressing F8. This will give you options, pick last known good configuration. and boot up.

If that doesn't work, press F8 on boot up and choose safe mode.

If this doesn't work then the Operating System is corrupt and will have to be repaired.

Boot with winxp cd and choose repair console.

Audio problem on toshiba dynabook 2550S

Have you tried reinstalling your drivers? Try connecting some external speakers to the headphone jack and see if it works? If it does the speakers on the laptop are gone, if not the sound card is indeed not working. Do you have a speaker icon in your system tray by the clock?
