SOURCE: DVD dies if I try to record to the end

I also have this problem with my hitachi camcorder and have called with no resolution as well. I have purchased every type of DVD-R and they all do the same thing. It is soooo frustrating! I've lost countless memories of my son and want to cry every time. I'm ready to throw the camera away!

SOURCE: help ejecting dvd

I had the same problem and tried for ages (even tried forcing the door open thinking I could just tape it shut) without luck.
Then my very clever wonderful husband had a go (I know i'm crawling and yes my knees hurt).

Any way to the relevant bit. If you hold the eject button down and at the same time slide a knife or similar object round the edge of the door where the screw is near where it says photo/select you'll find that the door opens as this is an override mechanism.

If this doesn't happen with regular DvDs you rent or buy, there may be something wrong with the way you're recording DvDs then.
It could also mean the lens head on your DvD reader is dirty

Cyberhome DVR 1600 DVD

What format are you recording in?If the recorder is set for DVD +R, and your playback machine won't read the disc, you may need to record on a DVD-R, or a DVD +-R. Or vice-versa. Some DVDRW discs will record on one machine and won't play on another. The media are incompatible. Another problem - if you are copying a copy-protected disc, it might not play back either. Are you sure you are finalizing the disc? This process takes 4-5 minutes and requires two or three responses sometime.

Playing recorded DVDs on PC or other DVD player

Recordings from your DVD recorder should play on other DVD players as long as you finalize the recording on your recorder.

A PC should recognise an un-finalized, but only in a DVD writer drive.

DVD4300

Be advised that this unit, the Go-Video DVR4300, is a combined VCR (video cassette recorder) and DVD Player; it does not record DVDs. Only a DVD Recorder unit will serve your need.

Instructions for recording to VCR from TV is in the manual.

My dvd always shows "system error" and won't play commercial copyright dvds, only recorded ones.

I had the same problem with my recorder except that it wouldnt play any discs at all.. I finally unplugged the recorder and left it unplugged for 16 hours. Now it is fine. I am not getting any error messages.
