I have a cobra microtalk two way radio model CXT475C - one unit does not receive voice transmissions, but will receive signal if call button is used.

Double check against all the instructions - in particular, make sure the batteries are charged according to "before first use" spec, that the volume is turned up, and that the squelch (if fitted and not automatic) is adjusted properly. If it still doesn't work, take it back to Wal-Mart. If the product doesn't work, there's no need for the packaging to be in good condition - it's not as if they'll be needing it to resell the goods to anybody else. A.

we bought a cobra hl-200p its says 2mile range but it doest mit the standard range for about 50 feet we can no longer transmit and when we set to max range we only hear loud static can you help us on this problem? tnx we only have 2days warranty

You may have the CTCSS privacy code function enabled on one radio and not on the other. This function keeps your radio's received muted unless it receives a signal from another radio using the same privacy code. If you have Privacy Codes set for radio A but not for radio B you will still be able to transmit from A to B but when you transmit on radio B your signal will not be heard on radio A.

Make sure that both radios are set to the same privacy code or that the function is turned off on both radios.

Sounds like the radio was subjected to electrostatic discharge. If you have your manual, and it describes a way to do a "master reset" on the radio, follow the instructions. This usually involves pushing down on one key while turning the radio on. Otherwise you have to find a licensed dealer for factory service, as there is no way to repair the radio yourself. The use of surface mount technology still confuses many Techs unless they have been to a company's two or three week seminars.
