I am helping a blacksmith who purchased a Rand 4000 (RA5E6VA). He uses it quite frequently for long periods of time. The plastic tube that goes to the pressure switch from the inlet to the tank melts. What can be done to prevent this?

  • Anonymous Aug 05, 2013

I believe that I have resolved the matter. It appears that the pressure switch has failed and needs to be replaced. The reason the tube melted was hot compressed gas was passing through the plastice tube over a period of time. Thank you all.

SOURCE: Air Compressor, low pressure

does the compressor keep running all the time but never gets above 40 or does it turn off at 40?
if it is turning off at 40 I would try using another gauge just to be sure it is 40psi, and if that is the case then you probably have a faulty pressure switch, if the compressor is constantly runnign but won't get past the 40psi then you may have a worn out compressor, check the oil for either a low level or if the oil is dirty, if it is you may just need to drain and refill but if that doesn't fix the issue then you will need to rebuild the compressor

SOURCE: I have an Ingersoll Rand compressor (RA5E6VA) 5 HP

that is just a compression fitting. Sometimes just replacing the tubing is enough to get a bit on it. If not you should be able to get another fitting from an indstrial supplier.

How can I change the glass in a rand mcanlly 510?

You could try ifixit.com, where they have manuals, video's for free, about how to repair electronic equipment. They also can help (not for free) with spare parts and tools, when you need some.

Rand McNally has amazingly improved their customer support. Call 800-333-0136. They will try to fix the problem or issue you RMA if your unit is still under warranty.

Map down loads

From what I understand, you have a 30 day guarantee for the latest update map. That 30 day stretch starts from the day of first use (not the time of purchase). It it is not a store demonstration unit then you still have 15 days. It goes without saying that if the licensed map has not updated within the 30 days period, there is nothing to update. You can however still use the Map Share feature to download the minor map corrections.

I suggest you frequently connect your unit to the calculator and the Tomtom Home software will do the automatic updates. If a new map is issued within your 30 period you will get. Even if you missed it you should console yourself in the knowledge that major map update are not that frequent. You can also buy other maps from Tomtom.

My monitor goes black for about 2 seconds then goes back to pict.

Sounds asif the Xenon tubes that backlight the LCD are losing power. Probable cause, a power invertor or PSU fault.
It can be repaired by a hardware specialist, but best written off.
The cost of repair will be better spent on a new monitor.
