What is the best PCI-e vga video card to upgrade this machine with?
Since you have a PCI-e expansion slot any graphics card that is PCI-e interface will work, it all depends on what you do with your computer if you game on it then you'll want a more expensive card, if you don't do gaming then you can get by with a less expensive card. Just remember that just because you put in a very expensive graphics card doesn't mean you'll be able to play all the new games at high settings because the rest of you system is quite old and will not be able to keep up with an expensive graphics card it's what's called a bottle neck. Whether it be your processor and or your memory being the bottle neck in your case it would be both. So keeping all that in mind a low priced PCI-e graphics card would do just fine. Hope this helps

Hello,
Is the system work using the old video card? if yes then, use it and then reconfigure the in the bios setup using the PCI video card. You can insert it simultaneously and then use first the old video in preparation for the configuration using the new PCI video card

You should try to disable it in the hardware list.
E-machines have an odd bios where not all the functions of the motherboard are available to the user.
If you can find the make and model of your board there is a good chance you can find the PROPER bios for it.
Emachines use motherboards from a variety of regular motherboard suppliers
My older e-machine has a hacked bios so that I can alter ALL the settings.

did you already check your BIOS settings? find and go to peripherals, check the settings of your video card maybe it is set to your ON-BOARD vga.change it to [auto] for automatic detect but this information may vary because all BIOS settings are not the same in each every computer.

Your system supports PCI Express x16. So look for a compatible video card which should atleast have 512mb of video memory.
