I have an aspire 3610 its around 18 months old, last night the screen went blank, although thats what i thought, if you look closely everything is still there, its as though the lights have gone out. Anyway, i powered down and rebooted, the screen came back on, but went dark again within 20 seconds. If i use the laptop without the ac adapter in it will work ok? as soon as i plug in the ac it goes dark again? the battery only lasts about 30 mins total, on start up the screen has a bit of an orange tint, which dissapears once loaded. THe laptop goes dark straight away if i remove the battery and only power up with the ac cord. Im desparate for a solution or advice, as all my worko is on the laptop and i cant afford a new one. any suggestions would be received with thanks, Tracy
It sounds like your backlight is damaged. On some units this can be replaced on its own. On others, it requires the entire LCD to be replaced. I'll see if I can find out which this is, in your case, and find you a part number.
Apparently, you can't just replace the backlight.
And finding a new LCD proved very difficult. Finally, I found one on eBay. I could not find any online stores that carried them.

You could try calling a local repair shop. I'm sure they would know how to order them, and likely be willing to sell you one. The eBay auction above has detailed instructions on replacing this LCD. I suggest saving those even if you don't buy the LCD from them.
You know, I overlooked that fact. There's another possibility, and a much easier one.
Your power inverter may be going out. So when you plug it in, it's not providing reliable voltage to the backlight. The backlight runs on a different voltage level than the rest of the computer, so it could be affected while the rest of the computer isn't.
Can you get ahold of another power inverter (the brick part of the power cord) for this unit to test it with? I'd suggest taking it into a repair shop and seeing if they have one you can try on it. And if that fixes it, buy it from them (even if they do charge a few pounds more, they did you a favor after all).

Thank you for your comments, unfortuantley i am in the uk, so the lcd on ebay would be too costly to ship here from the usa.
Also if the backlight has gone, why does the laptop power up and work fine when its not plugged into the ac adapter? this is one thing i dont understand
THANK YOU, I WILL TRY THAT AND POST AND LET YOU KNOW, THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP
