The TV started turning itself off and back on. There was a flashing red light constantly. Accessing timer button proved useless, as it indicated timer was off. Now if you turn on TV you hear a click, and the red light again flashes, you get no picture, and in just a few seconds you hear the click again and the TV turns itself off. I've checked for Walter Matthau-like neighbors (as in "Grumpy Old Men"), but that's not the problem. Should I contact some paranormal investigators, or can someone tell me if this is easily fixed? I've tried unplugging the set for over 24 hours at a time, and removing batteries as well from remote, but problem persists! Don't want to buy another TV if problem is simple to fix. Thanks for the service!
So far you have done all you can and you have done everything right. The fact that the TV turned off by itself and then turned back on by itself suggests that one or more solder joints have come loose inside the set. A qualified tech should find this easy to fix, and Sony sets are always worth repairing, so it is now time to have the set serviced by a tech experienced in Sony standard sets.
