Clunk sound when turning left in 2005 Chev Malibu

When turning left in my 2005 Chev Malibu, I hear a clunk sound when I go over the dip in the road where two roads meet. It is a light sound that doesn't seem to affect the performance of the car but is annoying in an otherwise wonderful vehicle.

Mileage is 50,000, but it has done it since new. All parts are original. It sounds like something is slightly loose, but I locate anything that seems loose.

there is a manufacture bulliton. my wifes did the same and had part of steering replaced

Ultimately it would have to raised and inspect the undercarriage and suspension. Surely can be found, if search for properly, such as a lift thst support the axles and doesnt let the wheels hang

Possibly a worn strut / shock. What is the mileage and are they original ?

I have 3 2005 Malibus - 1 Maxx LT, 1 Sedan LT, and 1 Sedan LS. All three needed to have the steering rod replaced by 50K miles. You'd feel a muted clunk through the wheel when turning. The other light clunk issue I had with the Maxx was I hit a parking curb and it broke the lower radiator bracket. In certain bumps you'd feel a light clunk. A new $22 bracket fixed the issue and now I make sure I never pull too far into the spaces in the garage at work.

Condition Some customers may comment on a clunk type noise coming from the front of the vehicle while driving during a turning maneuver.

1. Locate a large area (parking lot) where the vehicle can be turned in a tight circle. 2. Turn the steering wheel to the right and/or left all the way to the steering lock, then off the steering lock a 1/4 turn. 3. Drive the vehicle approximately 5 km/h (3 mph) in a circle, preferably over rough pavement or seams on the road surface. 4. Drive the vehicle straight ahead at idle speed while applying and releasing the brake pedal. Listen/feel the steering wheel for the clunk/noise condition. 5. If a clunk is felt in the steering wheel, the MOST likely cause is the I-shaft - not the steering gear. Continue with the correction. Correction DO THIS - Replace the intermediate shaft DON'T DO THIS - DO NOT lube the intermediate shaft Replace the existing intermediate shaft

Clunk noise when turning right

Could be the drive axle, but may also be a shifting lower control arm or strut. Usually a faulty drive axle clunks every time the axle turns.

I am getting a huge clunk in the front end of my 1997 Ford F-250 when turning into a driveway with any type of dip to it.

That would be the frame rivets creaking and poking. You need the dealer to address this properly.

Most likely you have a bad drive axle, each drive axle has 2 universal joints and when they get worn they make a big clunk sound. Especially turning or going from forward to reverse.

Clunk noise from front passenger side when

That noise sounds to me like a Ball Joint problem. I would check to see if you have fittings to grease the front suspention.

I have a loud clunking noise that happens when I turn the steering wheel left and right. And I have a clunk when you put in to drive, but when car is warmed up it doesn't seem to be as bad. Can anyone...

The clunk you are hearing when the car is placed into drive is the "slack" in the drive train being taken out. It should pose no problem and without knowing the type of car you are driving is difficult to judge if it may be something more serious. If anything it could be the universal or CV (constant Velocity) joints making the sound from excess wear. The clanking when the wheel is turned could be CV joints getting old and needing replaced (Front wheel drive and 4WD only. Rear Wheel drive Universal Joint) or it could be excessively worn parts in the steering system. Definitely have this looked at.
