i have 2 handsets that are connected to a computer splitter and have been so for about 18 months and working fine. now i have no dial tone and one handset will say out of range every now and again. My phones all say out of range! i have tried deregistering them and reseting them with the main base but they are still not working. I bought the original base with 2 handsets about a year ago and just added another handset recently, before it all stopped working. Very disapointed.

Just purchased new Uniden phones. They won't call out displaying "Out of range.

The owners manual is no help whatsoever.

When I push talk, the Uniden phone says out of range. How do I fix it?

  • Anonymous Feb 10, 2009

The base station works but the additional handpiece says out of range and I've tried de registering it but it won't and there's nothing in the manual about it.

  • Anonymous Feb 22, 2009

We have a twin Uniden set. The phones are 18 months old. We arrived home after 2 days away, to find the base phone says "out of range". I've unplugged and replugged, checked batteries, cleaned the terminals etc., but nothing has changed. We can't receive or make calls from it. The other one is fine.
    Is it fixable?

  • tooltime63 Mar 02, 2009

In the middle of calls the phone beeps & says "Out of range". This is with the unit 3 feet from the base! Most times I can flash over a couple of times & reconnect with my call but occassionally I just lose the call & have to redial. What a rip off!

  • Anonymous May 06, 2009

Once one of my phones displayed Out of Range, after some time I disconnected the battery and replaced it, all fixed. Now several months later all my phones are doing it, and there seems to be nothing I can do.. I've tried everything here with no success. Guess I'll be chosing another brand next time..

  • Anonymous May 08, 2009

I also have t he same out of range problem and the manual is not helpfull in the least since I the hand set is only 2 to 3 feet away from the base amd most of the time on the base. Uniden has changed their contact hours which does not help us in the Pacific Time Zone. I work and when I can call them I am within a half hour of needing to leave and I get off work when they close. I can't sit on the phone all day at work until I get a person to help me. What is the solution here? I am about ready to chuck all Uniden products from the future buying because of the lack of help.

  • kookaburra02 Jun 20, 2012

Could be caused by the way the phone handset is held, ie don't put your hand over the back of the phone/antenna, hold it lower down. See http://www.uniden.com.au/RESOURCES_MAIN/... There is a diagram after the following text: Keep the antenna free of obstruction.
When the handset is not in use place the handset in an upright position.
Do not hold the handset where you would block the signal.
    Hope this helps.

Ok. My problem was that the main phone and answering machine worked fine, but the second handset kept saying, "Out of range" no matter what I did. If I tried to make a call, it would say, "Connecting...", but after a while, "Out of range".

I followed the manual which offers two mechanisms to deregister the phone. The first method (press Menu soft key...) went through the motions and then said, "Out of range"!

The second method in the manual worked - after I worked out what the instructions mean!

So here's the answer:

Take the phone out of the cradle (charger). Press and hold simultaneously for more than 5 seconds the red telephone-symbol key and the # key.

You will hear a confirmation tone and DEREGISTRATION COMPLETE appears.

Now go to the OTHER phone (the MAIN phone). Take it out of its cradle and put the deregistered second handset in the MAIN cradle. The window displays a few messages and then REGISTRATION COMPLETE.

After that, for me, everything worked.

(Put each phone back in its normal cradle.)

Ok I TOO have suffered from the "Out of range" problem with the Uniden 5.8 Ghz cordless phone (with 3 bases). The "Out of Range" appears on all 3 phones. The phones are not Out of range, this problem has occurred one other time. Thank heaven for other people posting their problems (Dr Tech :)) Although there are some posts that state unplugging the battery and/or the power cord works, it did not for me. Here's what DID work.

First: Deregister the phone. Hold the red end button down and the # button at the same time for about 5-8 seconds or until it beeps and says

  • 1 more comment
  • Anonymous Sep 04, 2010

Then select deregister, then select base unavailable if asked. It will then deregister and say place handset on base to register. This is where I got confused. It doesn't say which base. I made the mistake of placing it on it's own base, no wonder it kept saying registration failed. Place any unregistered phone on the MAIN BASE to register. It will do it's thing then it will say registration complete.

  • Anonymous Aug 07, 2011

Yes, this worked, but all I had to do was hold down the end button and # at the same time - it automatically deregistered, then I put in base, and it registered! Wow, finally!

I tried all of the deregistration/registration steps unsuccessfully. Finally, just unplugging and re-plugging the power cord to the main base fixed the problem. An unbelievably frustrating process, to be sure!

(remove cover, unplug battery, while holding down * & # keys, plug in battery, then let keys go. Now press top right 3rd soft key below LCD display and reset eeprom. Place in base and re-register. If you get 'Registration Failed' then press End & # together until it says 'Registered'. Otherwise, you may have to get it repaired/replaced according to Uniden).

My phone was brand new out of the box and had the "out of range" error on both handsets. I read thru these suggestions and began by choosing "System Reset" as instructed. This did not work on its own so I tried to "deregister" the handsets. This didn't work either!!!

Out of frustration I took the batteries out of the handsets and once I replaced the batteries and put the handset back in the cradle, everything reset itself and they are all working fine now.

PHEW!!

We had 1 phone of the 2 which said "out of range".After trying everything, including registration etc, we pulled the battery out of the back of the phone, disconnected the leads. Gave it a clean, then replaced it. Now the phone works normally.

I had 'Out of Range' issues for my second Uniden WDECT 3355 +2 handset. Every time I hit the 'talk' button, it would display 'Out of Range' on the screen. Here's what I did (in order):

  1. De-registered the second handset (System Reset > Deregister HS)
  2. De-registered the first main handset (see Step 1 for method)
  3. Use the 'Replacing Base' function on the first main handset (System Reset > Replace Base)
  4. Place the first main handset on the main base, it should register automatically.
  5. Use the 'Replacing Base' function on the second handset (System Reset > Replace Base)
  6. Place the second handset on the main base, it should register automatically.

If you require a user manual for the UNIDEN WDECT 3355 +2, you can view and download it here:

Press the Hand Set (HS) button on the main base which causes your phone to beep loudly. Then pick up the phone, press "Talk" to stop the beeping and you're all set again. This will get rid of the "Out of Range" and "Searching" mode and you will be able to use your phone again.

Using my Uniden Dect 6.0 cordless phone, been talking for awhile and now it keeps disconnecting after only about a minute of connection.

Hello Lynn:

Make sure the power cord is securely plugged into the telephone base. Plug the telephone base into a different working electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch. Move the handset closer to the telephone base. It may be out of range. Reset the telephone base by unplugging the electrical power to the base. Wait for 15 seconds and plug it back in again. Allow up to one minute for the cordless handset and the telephone base to synchronize. Other electronic products such as HAM radios and other DECT phones can cause interference with your cordless phone. Try installing your phone as far away as possible from these types of electronic devices.

I get a message hand-set not in range. No charge light. Hook up appears OK. Second home phone works properly. Prior to problem I tried to dial a local no. but entered 8 nos. Phone says searching or...

Dialing the 8 numbers should not cause a problem.I have a few suggestions, you may have tried a couple already.Hang up the problem phone on the base unit for about 30 seconds. If that does not help, remove the battery for a few seconds and try the 30 second hang up again.Try unplugging the base unit for a half minute.I am trying to get it to reset itself and link to the base.Is the second phone part of this system too?We had a Uniden and I personally thought it ended up being garbage and will probably never buy another one.If you end up deciding to buy a new phone, the new technology is DECT 6.0 and is supposed to have better range from the base, clearer sound to name a few things. The strange thing about it is that it operates at 1.9 GHz.Also,if you decide on a new one, google DECT phones. There are all kinds of forums about peoples opinions/ratings of ones they have bought and used for a period of time.If you have any questions, just comment on this post and I will get an auto email saying you posted.Good luck! try connecting both phones via the base that is working and see if they recognize each other. Let me know if that works.

Handset No2 displays out of range message

Please check that you have correctly registered the second handset to the base. It may be necessary to de-register the second handset and then re-register it. "Out of range" just means the second handset is not within range of the base phone it was registered to.

Phone won't hang up

I solved this exactly problem by doing this:
1) unplug base station from phone line
2) unplug base station from power cube
3) open each phone and disconnect battery (do not replace phone in charger; just let it sit)
4) wait 30 minutes (per instructions from Uniden)
5) reconnect batteries in phone sets
6) reconnect power cube to base station
7) reconnect base station to phone line
8) test: make a call. Hang up. Wait one minute. Pick up line and see if you get a dial tone.
(Basically you're "rebooting" the system. You don't know where the fault lies, so you power down every component to make sure you get it. The '30 minutes' is longer than I'm used to, but after being on hold with Uniden tech support for 20 minutes and finally getting through, the instructions from them were very clear: AT LEAST 30 minutes. OK! I did it - and it worked!)

Base handset out of range

Try opening the phone battery compartment on the back of the phone, disconnecting the battery wire, then reconnecting the battery wire. Solved my "Out of Range" problem - phone came back on and worked properly.
