The key marked [a b/c], the one below the [X,Theta,T] and [7], allows you to enter fractions either as mixed numbers or improper fractions.
To enter the mixed number 3 4/7 you key in 3 [a b/c] 4 [a b/c] 7 [EXE]
To convert this to an improper fraction press [SHIFT] [F--D].
Pressing the [F--D] key toggles between fraction and decimal representation.

How come when I press the improper fraction it becomes an L how do I change that

You have two Input/Output modes MathIO, LineIO. The latter is the old way of presenting fractions with the u or wedge as a separator. MathI0 displays fractions as you would see them in textbook.
Set the input/output display to MathIO.
To do so, reset your calculator or Press [SHIFT][Mode](Setup) and select 1:MathIO.

How do you input fractions?

To input fraction on a TI83PLUS you enter a numerator, press the division key thaen the denominator. But before pressing the ENTER to execute the command, press the MATH button. In the new screen that displays, select the option 1:>Frac. At this point your comiand line has [numerator] [/] [denominator] [>Frac]. Press ENTER to valodate. The fraction entered will be kept in fraction format but reduced to its simplest terms.

If you have a TI84Plus, then the newer OS (2.43MP ) handle fractions much better than OS 1.19 of the TI83Plus.

I CANT GET MYCALCULATOR TO DO FRACTIONS CAN YOU HOPE ME

To configure the calculator to do fractions, set the Input/Output mode to MathIO.
Press [SHIFT][MODE] to open (SetUp) then select [1:MathIO].
After you set it to MathIO, pressing the fraction key will display a fraction template where you can enter numerator and denominator as you would by hand (horizontal fraction bar). Also, the calculator will display results as fractions and radicals whenever possible.
To perform arithmetic operations on fractions use the regular operation keys (x, +, -, /). The calculator will perform the operations and display the results as fractions (whenever possible).

How do you do fraction, and

To enter the fraction two-thirds (2/3), first enter the number two. Then press the key that is the letter n with a bar underneath it. This will designate the 2 as the numerator of the fraction. Then, enter the number 3 followed by the key that is the letter d with a bar over it. That designates the 3 as the denominator of the fraction.
Any fraction can be inputted in the same manner. First the numerator followed by the n with a bar under it, then the denominator followed by the d with the bar over it. Once your fraction is inputted, continue with your computations as normal.

How do I convert from decimals to fraction with my TI-30X IIS calculator? I need the step by step process

The following examples will demonstrate how to convert decimals into fractions using the TI-30Xa and TI-30Xa Solar. Please be aware that TI-30Xa Solar School Edition calculators do not have this functionality.

Example: Convert .25 to 1/4

Answer is in the form of a fraction

What is the question? Do you want fractions or not?
  • If you want to perform exact calculations (that is with fractions and radicals) you should set the calculator Input-output mode to MathIO. Even with this mode set as default you can still convert the final result to a decimal number. This can be done 2 ways.
  1. Result is already displayed in fraction/radical format: Press the [S-D] key to toggle between the two formats.
  2. Result has not been calculated yed (expression still in command line), then press [SHIFT][=] to ensure it is displayed in decimal format.
  • If you do not want fractions nor radicals (roots) just set the default Input-Output to LineIO
To set one or the other IO modes, do as follows.
  1. Press [SHIFT][MODE] to open setUp and select [1:MathIO] to select natural display with fractions/radicals.
  2. Press [SHIF¨][MODE] and select [2:LineIO]
