Cannot hear anything out of the earpiece of my GN netcom 9120 wireless headset

I cannot hear any sound out of my GN netcom 9120 wireless headset. This product has worked just fine for a year. We recently have a serious of power outages at the office. And since then (2 days ago) I have not been able to get the headset to work. I have unplugged all the cords and replugged everything back together. I have checked the power cable. The regular phone that this is connected to works fine. The green light is on the docking bay to indicate that there is power for the headset. When I speak into the headset, I can hear my voice amplified by the headset's microphone. Yet I cannot hear a dial-tone or anything over the phone lines through the headset. I tried turning the channel selector wheel on the docking station, but nothing seems to change the fact that I cannot hear anything through the headset. What else can I do? Thank you for any help you may offer! -Alan

After re-reading the manual, I realize that it is important to note that the green light on the docking box is blinking and will not go solid. The troubleshooting guide there says to check that it is properly docked (I think it is...) and to check that the battery is in proper place in the headset (uhh...). I'm not sure if I want to crack open the headset. What should I look for? And what if I cannot put it back together? I wouldn't want to break it by trying to fix something simple. What is your best advice?

    Thanks again!

Recently had a power outage and now cannot hear anything in the headset.

The arm lifter is working when I lift the headset from the docking station, the green light on the docking station is solid, then when I pick up the headset and replace in the docking station it will flash for a bit. I have check all plugs/settings etc but still no sound from the headset.

    PLEASE HELP!!

I was also experiencing the same problem (also after a power failure / storm) -- apparently good battery charge, connections ok, etc. I then tried removing the battery from the headset itself, waited 30 seconds, and then reinstalled the battery. This seems to have resolved the problem.

It is fairly easy to open the clamshell, but you will need a very fine Phillips screwdriver to remove the battery hold-in (it's really not a hold-down, it just keeps the battery in place. Reassemble the same way -- be sure to keep positive to positive and negative to negative.

On the back of the base is a "compatability wheel." try spinning the wheel until sound comes out of the headset.

Battery Light Won't Go Solid. Lot's of clicking sounds and lights flashing (GN Netcom 9120).

It sounds like it may be a defective unit in that the charging points on the base and the earpiece are making intermittant contact, hence the clicking noise you get when the unit goes into headset mode and the fact that the battery never reaches a fully charged status.

A couple of things to try:

  • Check the charging points/contacts on the base and the earpiece for damage.
  • If they look ok, gently clean them with some spirits and try again.

New Phone Causing Echo

It sounds like your microphone volume is too loud. Get someone on a call with you so they can tell you how it sounds as you adjust it. Turn down the mic volume by pressing the + & - buttons on the earpiece together once which puts the earpiece into mic adjust mode. Then decrease the mic volume by pressing the minus button a few times until it sounds right. The earpiece will automatically revert to normal mode within a few seconds.
If this doesn't work it may be that you need to adjust the compatibility setting for the new phone. This is the small black dial on the base station. The most common setting is 'A' but you may need to experiment with other settings for that phone.

GN Netcom GN 9120 - can't hear

Hi There, I had the same problem with a headset one of our call centre reps were using. It's usually due to some one fiddling with the button. I got it working by removing the battery from the headset then resinked the headset to the base unit. Hope it works for you
