Yes, that correct you can just need to take the hard drive from your desktop and get a external hard drive ecnlosure where you need to put the hard drive and connect it to your laptop via USB cable, check this link for the sampole of the hard drive enclosure that you need to buy http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=2777&name=Hard-Drive-Enclosure
Hope that helps.........

Remove the cover plate from behind the drive (where the plugs and on/off switch are.) You have to then remove the 2 screws. After that pull on the end with the blue lights to slide the hard drive out. If you have a tower computer, you can permanently install the hard drive and it should work fine as a secondary drive. Just make sure the jumper pins are set to "slave".

From your description it sounds like your GigaBank is damaged. You can check if there are problems with the drive using the free trial version of http://www.hdtune.com/
If it checks out ok then you can try to recover your data with Recuva it's free http://www.piriform.com/recuva
Or if you need data recovery help this a good choice for low cost and fast data recovery. All data recovery work is performed by an experienced tech remotely over the Internet from a boot cd that you download and the best part is they just ask for donations: http://FreeDataRecovery.us

Clicking Hard drive When a hard disk makes a clicking sound and the computer does not detect it then the hard disk is faulty. This is commonly known as "The click of death".
There is no way of fixing this hard drive, if you need to recover your data, then there are companies that can recover data off faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.
