You need a new bulb installed - difficulty is semi hard , in that you must take apart the boombox , remove the shroud around the bulb , unsolder , resolder new one ..take the old one to an electronics shop to match.

It is qquite possible to fix this. It may not be the motor either. Without seeing the actual unit, I can not state for sure, but quite often it is the belts that are bad. If it is the motor, look on it for some numbers. I don't think that JVC uses Mabuchi motors, but they may. These are generically available and cheap. Post any numbers that are on the motor and I'll look for a source for you.

Its the fuse (1.25A 250V slow blow) remove 12 allen screws on side panels, six each side (the very top and bottom allens are
for comestics) remove the woofer screws (just the two of the four)
that are facing the front panel.remove the 12 screws in the rear panel. 6 along the top, 4 along the bottom, 2 in the middle.
go to Radio Shack, Get a 2A 250V slow blow fuse (they dont have a 1.25A) Part# 270-1064 (4-pk about $3.00) reinstall & ROCK !!!!

You need to take the unit apart. If you pull hard to open the door, you`ll break the plastic connector that moves the head up and down.

go to an electronics store. You need a 12 volt bulb that solders onto a small removable circuit board located directly behind the display.
