TONE/PULSE DIALING 1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in TALK mode). 2. Use the CID/VOL left (-) or right (+) arrow button to scroll to 1TONE or 2PULSE, or use the touch tone pad on the handset to enter the desired setting. For example, to choose TONE dialing, press the number 1 key. 1TONE is the default setting. 3. Press flash/program to store selection. You will hear a confirmation tone.

Depends on what your telephone exchange accepts as a dialing signal. Strange thing is phone is factory set to tone but it seems to sound like your phone is on pulse.
The phone is pre-set for touch-tone use. To set to tone or pulse dialing:
1. Press and hold the Program button until you hear a beep.
2. Press the *tone button to select Tone Dialing or press #pause to select Pulse Dialing.
3. Press the Program button again. You will hear a confirmation tone.

The owner/user manual should have instructions on how to accomplish this. I take it that you no longer have the manual, so you'll have to root around in the phone's settings (you may have to access the tone/pulse setting from the base unit), to select the desired dialing mode. On some older phones (including cordless), the tone/pulse selection is a physical switch on the base unit (on the top/bottom/side/back). Look carefully... I hope I've helped you!
